**Job Description: **

Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time intern with a Civil Engineering background to support our growing GeoDesign group.

The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern’s practical knowledge and experience by applying professional principles to real problems under the supervision of senior engineering personnel.

The position will be held from **May through August of 2026.

**

Our GeoDesign group provides geotechnical engineering, geostructural engineering, infrastucture monitoring, and geophysical services.

As part of the GeoDesign team, you will support services on our projects ranging from project need/hazard identification and subsurface explorations to geotechnical recommendations, concept development, design, and construction oversight services.

Our team provides services to owners, contractors, and engineering firms on a wide range of projects, including in the transportation, power/energy, water, and federal markets.

**Job Responsibilities: **

+ Performing geotechnical field work including observing geotechnical subsurface exploration, using GPS to layout borings, and performing infiltration testing 
+ Performing construction observation at construction sites 
+ Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS 
+ Providing support to engineers on preparing geotechnical proposals and reports 
+ Some travel may be required 

**Required Skills/Experience: **

+ Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s.

Enrollment in other college engineering or relevant science programs may be considered.


+ Incoming Junior, senior, and graduate students only 
+ Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy 
+ Ability to work with direction as part of a team 
+ Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work 
+ Desire and willingness to work outdoors 
+ Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds 

**Preferred Skills/Experience: **

+ Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field 

**Other Requirements: **

+ Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job 
+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening 

The compensation range for a Civil Engineering Intern is between $18.00 to $25.00.

Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
