Job description

**Job Description Summary**
The Class ‘A’ Machinist will be a team contributor to the repair and overhaul of composite propeller systems.

In this role, you will assist in the assembly, disassembly, and repair of propellers and related units.

A Class A Machinist must have a working knowledge of different types of machines and how they operate, the types and uses of tools required for the machines, and the use of dimensioning instruments needed to evaluate end results.

They require little or no supervision in the carrying out of their assignments and has little or no rework or scrapping of parts.

A Class “A” machinist is a self-starter, uses good judgement and demonstrates the ability to lead and direct subordinates.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment, produce quality results, help control costs, meet production requirements, and develop job knowledge and manufacturing skills.
• Comply with and support all GE and Site policies.
• Read, interpret and follow Mechanical manuals or written procedures / directions
• Must be able to read and work from blueprints
• Machine set-up and inspection
• Work with manual mill, band saw, router, belt sander
• Keep tools, fixtures, and materials organized and stored in appropriate areas at all times
• Design and implement tools and fixtures as required/necessary for the shop.
• Measure and examine completed parts to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Setup, Program, and operate CNC
• Edit and optimize CNC machining programs for efficiency.
• General drilling and tapping, milling, turning and grinding - cylindrical & surface.
• Service work on all dies
• Re-construction of dies and tools: turning, milling, drilling and grinding
• Select and recommend cutting tools for increased production.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, sanding, and material handling equipment.
• Keep all machinery, tools, and work area clean.
• Read and complete forms and generate meaningful reports and charts.
• Prioritize work and meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• PM (Preventive Maintenance on Tooling)
• Design and machine basic fixtures, and tooling to meet machining requirements.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machine shop equipment.
• Operate and rig material handling equipment (overhead cranes, gantries).
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• High School Diploma / GED
• Tool & Die Journeyman or Apprenticeship preferred
• Aerospace or Automotive experience preferred
• Class A and/or aluminum experience preferred

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
• Ability and willingness to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability and willingness to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively and occasionally lift up to 70 pounds.

Non-repetitive and occasionally lift over 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability and willingness to work in an area where, due to normal machining operations, there may be dust or fumes (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels-PEL)
• Employment will be contingent on the successful participation and compliance within the FAA and/or DOT drug pool

Demonstrate knowledge in and take training on Basic Safety courses (PPE, Chemical Hazard, Evacuation & Emergency Training, etc.)
• Ability and willingness to work various shift assignments and overtime.
• Ability to travel
