What You Will DoThis position will be filled at either the QA/QC Inspector 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.
Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
QA/QC Inspector 3 ($64,700 - $101,400) The Prototype Fabrication Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides technical experience and proficiency in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's nuclear stockpile stewardship efforts.
The selected candidate(s) will be joining a dedicated staff of engineers, programmers, journeymen machinists, and quality control professionals to ensure manufactured components meet drawing standards and requirements.
The successful applicant(s) will join the Prototype Fabrication-Applied Metrology Group's Dimensional Inspection Team.
This capability spans across four (4) environmentally controlled laboratories, supporting dimensional inspections of conventional material, depleted uranium, and beryllium fabricated components.
The dimensional inspection team supports both prototype and high rigor, formalized production agency inspection processes.
Responsibilities include, demonstrated use and understanding of Material and Test Equipment (M&TE) typically located in a high accuracy/high precession dimensional inspection laboratory.
QA/QC Inspector 4 ($78,700 - $125,100) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the candidate(s) shall have advanced coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming capability.
This is the ability to develop/write complex part programs with enough detail and direction for use by others.
When necessary, the selected candidate will directly interface with customers from other disciplines and departments to provide consultations on inspection procedures based on customer driven needs to ensure final product success.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:
Strong application of shop mathematics, unit conversions, and trigonometry.Intermediate knowledge required to read a drawing having Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and interpretation for dimensional inspection implementation.Verbal and written communication skills required to prepare and explain detailed inspection reports per inspection work requests, or production procedures.With intermediate/advanced knowledge, ensures proper control, calibration, use and selection of Materials and Test Equipment (M&TE) based on acceptance criteria: to include Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), height gages, surface plates, surface analyzers, optical comparators, thread gages, indicators, rotary tables etc.The demonstrated ability to troubleshoot existing CMM part programs, modify existing programs and write/develop intermediate part programs.Additional Job Requirements for QA/QC Inspector 4: Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), required to provide design phase consultation for product manufacturability, conceptual prototypes, and interpretation of intent for inspection.Advanced coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming capability with the ability to develop/write complex part programs with enough detail and direction for use by others.Demonstrated experience in researching, specifying, and selecting measurement and test equipment (M&TE) based on customer driven needs.Experience mentoring and training junior staff.Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 2 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 4 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications: Experience programming QUINDOS CMM Metrology SoftwareExperience programming PC-DMIS CMM Metrology SoftwareExperience programming of PolyWorks Metrology SoftwareWorking knowledge of International Standard, ISO 10360, Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Acceptance and reverification tests for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs)Technical communication; writing, editing and presentations skills.
