Job DescriptionJob Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathe machines to produce high-precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Set Up and Operation:
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Set up CNC lathe machines, including selecting and aligning appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials (e.g., metals, plastics, alloys).
- Load raw materials into the machine and ensure proper positioning.
- Adjust machine settings, such as cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut, to optimize performance and product quality.
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations from specifications and make necessary adjustments.
- Programming and Troubleshooting:
- Read, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G-code) to ensure efficient and accurate machining processes.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and resolve problems promptly to minimize downtime.
- Quality Control:
- Conduct in-process and final quality assurance checks on finished parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure adherence to specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Identify and report any defective outputs or inconsistencies.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate production records.
- Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC lathe machines and tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment issues.
- Collaboration and Improvement:
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, quality control personnel, and other team members to optimize machining processes, improve efficiency, and resolve technical challenges.
- Suggest and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred Skills (Bonus Points):
- Experience with specific CNC control systems (e.g., FANUC, Haas, Okuma, Mazak).
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
- Forklift experience.
- Experience with other machining processes (milling, grinding, etc.).
Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational/technical training program in CNC machining or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience (X years) as a CNC Lathe Machinist or similar role.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathe machines.
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Solid understanding of G-code programming and the ability to edit programs.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, etc.).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Basic math skills (including geometry and trigonometry) for calculations related to machining parameters.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move materials as required, and stand for extended periods.
