CNC Programmer
Hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday thru Friday
Manages daily tasks and assignment of duties for all CNC Programming.
Creates numerically controlled programs to control contour path machining of plastic parts on automatic machine tools.
Duties include correcting and improving existing CNC programs for quality and efficiency targets and assisting with new project development.
Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Essential Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Heavy Gauge Project Manager, Production Planning and Department Manager to prioritize CNC programing assignments and tasks (full time and subcontracted) and effectively communicate work schedule and status of assignments for CNC Programming staff.Establish and communicate programming task timelines and status to the Heavy Gauge Project Manager and Department Manager.Work with Engineering to develop strategies for trim fixture design and construction.
Participate in meetings with other departments regarding tooling activities and design evaluation.Assist Department Manager to develop planning for work center upgrades and retrofits.Recommend software upgrades for programming and post processing needs.Evaluate current equipment, fixtures, and processes to identify and implement changes to improve efficiency and profitability.Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
Able to interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GDT).
*machine tool/cutter design a plus*Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths as appropriate cutting tools.Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
Proficient with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and MasterCAM software, roboguide, RobotMaster to complete all needed programming tasks with 5 and 6 axis programming.Observe operation of machine and inspects parts to prove programmed instructions.Perform part inspection with common measuring tools (i.e. tape measure, micrometer, calipers, dial indicator, etc.).Perform all work procedures in accordance with safety and Quality Management System (TS-16949/ISO9001/ISO 14001).Part of a team driven to identify, develop and deliver innovative solutions, driven to constantly improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.Provide programming support to all CNC setup technicians.Provide a high level of problem-solving ability through effectively anticipating, analyzing, diagnosing and resolving problems.Support BOM/work instruction creation by providing necessary specifications.Essential Skills:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 3 years CNC programming experience or 3 + years trade school diploma required (preferred).
3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and MasterCam CAM required.
Experience with 5 axis programming required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OTHER: CNC Programmer CertificationLANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or managers and employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts including fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.
