CNC Swiss/Mill Turn Machinist I, II, III - Evenings Job Opening In Rochester – Now Hiring AP Professionals

The CNC Swiss/Mill Turn Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Swiss style and Mill Turn CNC machines, as well as other precision machining equipment.

This role involves interpreting part prints, process sheets, quality documentation, and CAD models to manufacture high-precision components to exact specifications.

The machinist contributes to a safe, positive, and continuously improving work environment, while supporting the overall goals and objectives of the organization.


HOURLY PAY RANGE: $22.00/hr - $38.00/hr.

Plus $2.00/hr shift differential.


SHIFT HOURS: 2:00 pm- 10:30 pm


Signing Bonus: Receive $3,000 (less applicable taxes) following a successful 90 day performance review.


Relocation Bonus: A relocation bonus is available based on distance moved (less applicable taxes) for individuals relocating to the Rochester, NY area.

  • Responsibilities

    CNC Swiss/Mill Turn Machinist 


    Level I

  • Perform basic shop math calculations to support machining tasks.

  • Interpret blueprints, work instructions, and inspection criteria accurately.

  • Use standard inspection equipment effectively to verify part quality.

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Level II

  • Analyze complex technical drawings and apply advanced GD&T principles.

  • Develop and troubleshoot complex CNC tool paths to ensure optimal performance.

  • Independently identify and resolve challenging process-related issues.

  • Assist in training and supporting Level I Machinists and Operators.

  • Operate effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Collaborate with other departments on project execution, design input, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Level III

  • Program, set up, operate, inspect, and adjust CNC machines to consistently produce parts that meet specifications without supervision.

  • Provide support to Discovery and Engineering teams by producing rapid prototypes and handling urgent machining requests.

  • Create and implement macros to improve process efficiency and automation.

  • Train new employees on work order line clearance procedures to minimize disruptions in downstream processes.

  • Serve as a mentor to new team members and assess training needs to help achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Monitor Hourly Productivity and Quality reports and take corrective actions to ensure daily production goals are met.

  • Participate in daily KPI meetings to identify and resolve obstacles affecting daily and weekly performance targets.

  • Education

    Level I

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Completion of a trade school program is preferred.

  • Requires 1 to 2 years of experience setting up and operating Swiss-style and Mill Turn machines.
  • Level II

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Completion of a trade school program is preferred.

  • Requires 3 to 5 years of experience programming, setting up, and operating Swiss-style and Mill Turn machines.
  • Level III

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Completion of a trade school program is preferred.

  • Requires a minimum of 6 years of experience programming, setting up, and operating Swiss-style and Mill Turn machines.

  • Advanced programming skills are required, with experience in PartMaker or Esprit preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

    Level I

  • Demonstrates basic proficiency in shop math.

  • Able to interpret blueprints, work instructions, and inspection standards.

  • Proficient in using standard inspection tools and equipment.

  • Possesses a foundational understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Level II

  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) is preferred.

  • Demonstrates a solid working knowledge of GD&T principles.

  • Programming experience is preferred.

  • Skilled in operating a variety of machine shop equipment.

  • Experienced in maintaining close tolerances across different metal types.
  • Level III

  • Capable of developing complex programs for multi-axis machining operations.

  • Possesses an advanced and thorough understanding of GD&T.
