Job description

Position: Combat Skills Medical Instructor

Location: Joint Base McGuire-Dix, Lakehurst, NJ

Position Type: Full time

Travel: None


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


+ Move (transport) and use explosive training devices and other similar devices as required in and around the installation and to and from its associated range/training areas.



+ Attend AF training classes provided by the USAF EOS and receive a certificate of competency for use and movement of explosive training devices at the completion of training.



+ Transport students to and from training areas.



+ Attend and complete the USAF EOS instructional methods course, Academic Instructors Course, or appropriate substitute course.

The course consists of approximately two weeks of institutional skills training designed to indoctrinate new military instructors as well as a one-year instructor upgrade certification period.

Sister Service instructor courses generally meet the Academic Instructor Course requirement.



+ Receive a Ft Dix range card and act/function in the capacity of Range Safety Officer (RSO) carrying out all of the associated duties identified in Ft Dix Pamphlet (PAM) 350-3.

Training attendance and passing a written examination is required.



+ Be able to work on complex, combat problems in the field, assessing dynamic situations, conveying experience, and main points as outlined in lesson plans to the students.



+ Be responsible to setup, use, issue, sign for and inventory training devices/equipment used during the course and other associated administrative tasks as assigned.



+ Record instructional hours and comply with all rules associated with the Community College of the Air Force accreditation policies/procedures, such as evaluations and continuing educational/developmental requirements (e.g., In-Service Training briefings except student/facility support, vehicle, and supply support personnel).



+ Complete and document one hundred eighty (180) hours of instruction within one year of assignment to a USAF EOS course.

All instructors will receive periodic instructor evaluations by USAF EOS staff pursuant to Community College of the Air Force accreditation policies.



+ Go through an initial, customized training course within 60 days of a new hire at the Expeditionary Center that consists of the aforementioned, Academic Instructors Course, Ft Dix range control class, pyrotechnic training, vehicle training, lane of training practical certification, demonstration/performance exercises, practice evaluations, shadowing and assisting experienced instructors prior to assuming primary instructor duties.



+ Perform Medical instruction/demonstration and student evaluations as required by the syllabi and Plan of Instruction (POI).



+ Ensure the most current student education and training materials are used and are provided to each student at the beginning of each lesson, as required.



+ Produce, assemble, and manage student materials as required to include paper and/or electronic (DVDs, etc.) based training materials provided by the Government.



+ Prepare classroom for instruction and ensure academic equipment, projectors, televisions, computer learning stations, etc., including uploading of computer-based training, if applicable, are functional.



+ Begin each lesson on time and teach for the prescribed amount of time IAW the student schedule unless there is an authorized schedule deviation.



+ Provide technical support, planning, consultation, analysis, and expert advice to establish, maintain, and improve their respective area's instruction.



+ Perform support/logistics functions arising from preparation for, execution of, and reconstitution following instruction such as, but not limited to; transport of instructional materials, setup of training ranges, in-processing of students, monitor student weapons cleaning, issue, and turn in training gear, etc.



+ Comply with USAF EOS, Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), and USAF policies, regulations, and instructions as they relate to instruction and instructor requirements.




Requirements:


+ Have a minimum of four (4) years of military experience in a military career field that is responsible for providing medical services to deployed forces, such as Independent Duty Medical Technician (USAF IDMT), Combat Medic, or U.S.N Corpsman (HM) with deployed experience supporting combat forces.



+ Have either prior, military deployed experience in environment ranging from uncertain or hostile environments or federal and/or state agency relevant experience in skills required to operate and survive in multiple environments.

+ Meet one of the below qualifications:


+ licensed paramedic (state or national)

+ Medical Doctor (MD)

+ Physician's Assistant (PA)

+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Current (within the last 12 months) Army Military Occupational Specialty 68W, Health Care Specialist; or 18D, Special Operations Medical Sergeant.



+ Maintain a certificate from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or equivalent credentialing agency.

The certificate shall be current and in good standing.

This type of certification is recognized for individuals who have completed EMT or advanced medical training.

Instructors may be required to show evidence of National Registry certificate, and/or proof of current medical certification.



+ Have the capability to possess a firearm(s) pursuant to Title 18 U.S.C. 922 and shall annually submit a Department of Defense (DD) Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.



+ Have the mental and physical capacity to instruct, qualify on, and maintain currency in the Air Force small arms qualification course of fire for handgun and rifle for arming group A, B, or C as outlined in Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 36-2655.

Select individuals may qualify on Air Force crew served weapons depending on availability and need for the qualification.



+ Have current certifications from the American Heart Association or equivalent and shall have the capability to recognize the signs and symptoms requiring first aid and perform basic first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) as well as show proof of current training on AED.



+ Have a valid state driver's license and be capable of driving government furnished vehicles in day and night conditions, vehicles including but not limited to; 15 passenger vans, trucks, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV/ M998-M1114), 44 passenger bus, 2.5-ton Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) military truck, and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP).

The USAF will provide specific training and government licensing once qualified on vehicles.



+ Have proficiency in use of the following computer programs: MS Office Suite (e.g., MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) Adobe Acrobat


Physical Demands and Work Environment


Be physically capable of instructing/supporting students in field conditions that may include:
+ low light
+ smoke

+ percussion

+ small arms fire (live fire target range, blanks and dye marking cartridges)

+ insects

+ uneven terrain under all weather conditions for multiple consecutive days wearing load bearing equipment (i.e., body armor, appropriate helmet, similar equipment to student requirements, etc.)

+ And/or carrying training aids or equipment.



+ Be physically capable of lifting 50lbs unassisted and running 500 feet (not simultaneously)

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
