Position Overview:

As a Computational Multiphysics Research Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

You will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and testing of computational nuclear multiphysics software.

This internship is designed to provide you with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your career in nuclear and thermal engineering.





Location:

The position will be located in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.





Your Day to Day as a Computational Multiphysics Research Engineering Intern:


+ Assist in the development of a MOOSE-based multiphysics workflow coupling Mixcoatl (conjugate heat transfer/thermal expansion) and OpenMC (depletion neutronics) via the Cardinal application.



+ Investigate various coupling strategies to enhance efficiency.



+ Develop and document test cases to support the verification of tools.



+ Automate workflow to improve user friendliness.



+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.



+ Prepare technical reports and documentation.



+ Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.



+ Perform other duties as assigned.






Required Qualifications:


+ Must be currently pursuing a master's or Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.



+ Must have a strong understanding of neutronics, heat transfer and/or thermal hydraulics.



+ Must have experience with and understanding of the MOOSE finite element framework.



+ Must have experience with the OpenMC Monte-Carlo code.



+ Must be proficiency with Linux HPC environment.



+ Must be familiar with Git.



+ Must be proficient in programming, with a preference for Python and C++ languages.



+ Must have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.



+ Must have strong communication and teamwork abilities.



+ Must be self-motivated and eager to learn.



+ Must be a US Citizen.






Preferred Qualifications:


+ Experience with Cardinal or other MOOSE-based applications is a plus.

The starting hourly rate for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[cust_salaryMin]] and $[[cust_salaryMax]] per hour.

The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations.

Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.

Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.

If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
