Computer Engineer (Artificial Intelligence Engineer) Job Opening In – Now Hiring Treasury, Departmental Offices


Job description

Summary This is a term position.

This position is located at Departmental Offices,Management CFO - Information Systems and Chief Information Officer.

The incumbent is a senior computer engineer with specialized experience in the application of artificial intelligence (AI), computer engineering, data engineering, and emerging digital technologies to the Treasury's enterprise systems.

Responsibilities As a Computer Engineer (Artificial Intelligence Engineer), the following are the duties of this position at the GS-15.

If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

- Represent the Department in interagency councils, technical standards bodies, and international forums, serving as a Treasury authority on AI and computer engineering.

- Establish and promulgate government-wide technical standards, engineering policies, and architectures for the ethical, secure, and trustworthy use of AI and emerging technologies.

- Formulate and direct enterprise-wide engineering strategies for AI-enabled systems, computer hardware/software integration, and cloud-native architectures, ensuring compliance with federal mandates and Executive Orders.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.

All newly appointed employees to the federal service are subject to a probationary period if hired under a competitive service appointment, or a trial period if hired under an excepted service appointment.

These periods are designed to evaluate an employee's performance, conduct, and alignment with agency mission and values.

These periods are no longer passive transitions to permanent status but serve as formal extensions of the hiring process, requiring affirmative Supervisory certification action.

Must successfully complete a background investigation.

Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.

All new hires will be required to comply with federal ethics laws.

A review of financial or other interests may be conducted to determine if they create any real or apparent conflict of interests with official Treasury duties.

Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.

Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.

Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.

Qualifications PLEASE NOTE: This is an open continuous announcement and will remain open for 12 weeks, with cut-offs every three weeks (see below).

Individual Occupational Requirements: A.

Degree: Engineering.

To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR B.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1.

Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1, or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration.

For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.

Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)2 examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

3.

Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A.

The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A.

Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

(The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Specialized experience for the GS-15:For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following: - Directing cross-agency projects; AND - Leading enterprise cloud-native modernization efforts; AND - Advising high-ranking officials on artificial intelligence, cloud, and data initiatives, influencing Department-wide adoption.

Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following: - Collaborating with senior management to ensure alignment of emerging technology adoption with leadership priorities; AND - Conducting cybersecurity risk assessments for artificial intelligence -enabled systems.

Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following: - Appling cybersecurity practices in artificial intelligence and cloud environments; AND - Participating in Agile development teams, contributing to sprint planning or execution.

Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following: - Assisting in designing, developing, testing, or deploying artificial intelligence models and prototypes.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.

One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Education The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency.

Additional Information This is a Location Negotiable After Selection position.

The salary range listed depicts the range covering the lowest locality level, up to the highest locality level.

Salary will be determined upon selection and dependent upon duty location, grade, step, and locality pay of selectee(s).

The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
