California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for one tenure track faculty position in the Department of Computer Science.

Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus system and among 12 such institutions nationwide.

Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences.

With a variety of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn-by-doing approach and .

The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate Kellogg.

We acknowledge that Cal Poly Pomona resides on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people who are the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar.

  • College of Science

    The College’s mission is to educate, mentor, and inspire students through scientific inquiry and hands-on learning.

    It offers 15 undergraduate degree programs and six Master’s degrees across seven academic departments that include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geological Sciences, Kinesiology & Health Promotion, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics & Astronomy.

    Our Center for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (CEMaST) supports K-16 education locally and nationally to increase STEM success and participation for all.

    The College of Science has approximately 150 full-time faculty, 40 staff, and 4,400 active majors.

    Our commitment to the teacher-scholar model results in our college being the largest recipient of extramural grant funding on campus.

    Minimum requirements include:

  • in Computer Science or a closely related area from an accredited university.

    (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity.

  • Demonstrated potential to establish an active research program with undergraduate and/or master’s students.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching of a broad range of undergraduate courses and graduate courses in Computer Science.
  • Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Preference will be given to candidate in any of the areas of Generative AI, Software Engineering, Games, Cyber Security, Data Science, and High Performance Computing.
  • Candidates in other major computer science areas will also be considered and are thus highly encouraged to apply.
  • University teaching experience, including teaching assistant experience.
  • Ability to develop/establish an active and sustainable research program based on their specialties.
  • Experience of conducting scholarly research activities with undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  • Teaching Philosophy Statement (up to 2 pages);
  • Research Statement that includes proposed research plan and details how undergraduate and graduate students will be involved (up to 4 pages);
  • List of Cal Poly Pomona graduate and undergraduate courses the applicant prefers to teach (see );
  • Unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, official transcripts will be required of finalists);
  • Names, titles, addresses, emails and telephone numbers of three references who can speak to the applicant’s potential for success in this position;
  • Semi-Finalists for the position will be required to provide three letters of reference (on letterhead, signed and dated within the past two years and uploaded to PageUp by the recommender).
  • Finalists for the position will: 

  • be required to provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview; 
  • be required to provide three letters of reference dated within the past two years;
  • Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a scholarly presentation to faculty and students, and a teaching demonstration in a class (topics shall be suggested by the search committee).
  • The positions are open until filled.
