About the Team

Our Container Platform Engineering Team are seeking a senior level technologist to join their expanding team.

This team is responsible for building the platform components, tools, documentation and observability solutions for all things related to our use of container technologies.

We currently deploy applications on AWS ECS, ECS Fargate, EKS and EKS EC2.

Our platform team is responsible to assisting and accelerating the deployment of applications and services to container platforms, driving standards, maintaining and upgrading systems, and building resilience and high availability into our solutions.


About the Role

This position will be highly influential in the overall design and evolution of our next generation observability strategy and will be a hands-on contributor to the development of the solution as well as a primary architect.

This is an advanced professional level role for a Platform Engineer.

Individuals may be responsible for one or more complex reliability and toil reduction projects.

At this level, SREs operate as a subject matter expert in the discipline and will provide guidance to others including product and development teams to define and improve reliability within a product group.

A Consulting/Principle SRE has a deeper understanding of system and application code and will make data-driven recommendations which balance customer, development, and operational needs.

They are champions for shared services, platforms, and architectural standards.

Individuals in this role train and/or mentor junior staff.


Responsibilities

+ Define best practices for K8s cluster deployment, scaling and management

+ Automate maintenance and upgrade tasks

+ Prototype and implement value added solutions to the K8s cluster

+ Define standards for application and service deployment using ArgoCD

+ Build and deploy observability and resilience solutions for core K8s and control plane systems

+ Build tools, libraries and applications to help simplify onboarding and operations for development teams

+ Build and deploy alerts, monitors, and dashboards in our primary observability platform

+ Document standards, requirements, and architectural designs

+ Educate, evangelize, and influence K8s adoption and consolidation throughout their organization

+ Develop AWS IaC code (Terraform, Python, etc.)

+ Look for opportunities to drive improvement across the K8s ecosystem

+ Support integration of AI and LLM driven tools to improvement K8s operation and scalability


Requirements

+ 10+ years designing and building large-scale, distributed platform or infrastructure systems in enterprise environments.

+ Experience in Go, Python, Java, C#, or similar, focused on platform services, automation, and infrastructure tools.

+ Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd).

+ Hands-on experience with Argo CD, Helm, and GitOps principles.

+ Excellent AWS skills and experience – AWS certification at Professional level is desirable

+ 5+ years building and deployment applications and services to Kubernetes systems

+ Excellent operational experience with Kubernetes and solid understand of K8s operational requirements.

Certification as a CKA is preferred.

+ Demonstrated experience scaling and troubleshooting large K8s clusters running tens of thousands of containers

+ Experience with platform engineering standards for logging, alerting, monitoring, and automation

+ Deep experience with a leading observability tool like Datadog, Splunk, New Relic etc.

+ Expertise with AWS observability solutions like CloudWatch

+ Experience with open-source observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK etc.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

+ Demonstrated ability as a cross functional collaborator and influencer

+ Familiarity with compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, SOC 2, HIPAA) is a plus
