Job description

Overview
The Content Developer plays a key role in supporting the Solution Center team by developing user guides and other content that outlines HR policy, transactions, etc.

This role is responsible for distilling complex HR topics into easy-to-understand information for a spectrum of audiences at all levels.

The Content Developer proactively seeks feedback on their work and adapts in real time in response to feedback.

This role analyzes the effectiveness of copy to convey the intended message and helps enable USC's vision while championing USC's culture and values.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position of Content Developer include:
Extensive applicable experience in employee or internal corporate communications.
Three or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: communications, content development, or writing and editing.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and AP style; familiarity with style guides.
Ability to tailor content and branding to fit the audience and message.
Ability to provide timely and helpful information.
Ability to build, deliver, and adapt solutions that consistently meet customer expectations.
Clear understanding of multichannel communication platforms.
Sense of design and typography.
Ability to work with stakeholders to gather information and distill into knowledge content.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic/creative thinking abilities.
Team-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively.
Ability to provide support and guidance on projects.
Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
Ability to provide detailed information and summaries to peers and supervisors.
Experience with Microsoft Office tools and content management systems.
Design experience creating assets for digital environments (WordPress, social, search and display advertising, etc.) including HTML and CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
Five or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: communications, content development, or writing and editing.
Experience in higher education, human resources, or solution delivery centers.
Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building abilities.
Ability to manage concurrent projects, prioritize assignments, and work under pressure with tight deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
Ability to produce quality copy on tight schedules.
Knowledge of human resources functions and services.
Comfortable with communications technology and complex environments.
Design experience with Adobe tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
Job Responsibilities
The Content Developer will be responsible for:
Developing user-friendly HR materials across various audiences by distilling complex policies and processes into clear, concise copy; collaborating with subject matter experts to create quick reference guides and FAQs.
Creating, maintaining, and improving solution center self-help materials and delivery approaches; streamlining content access to help audiences find HR information quickly; building and maintaining stakeholder relationships to tailor content to needs.
Learning from data trends to gain insights into customer needs, adapting content to optimize adoption and effectiveness; meeting deadlines while balancing competing priorities; anticipating future needs with HR knowledge experts and business strategy.
Developing content for websites, FAQs, knowledge guides, and other communications to disseminate HR content for the Solution Center.
Working with business, technical, and support stakeholders to define knowledge improvement solutions; proactively seeking feedback and adapting accordingly; analyzing copy effectiveness and improving writing based on feedback.
Using standard tools and style guides to deliver high-quality work; performing self and peer reviews; asking questions to analyze problems and improve understanding; upholding integrity in decision-making.
Promoting an inclusive environment and unbiased opportunities for contributions in line with USC Code of Ethics.
Adjusting priorities based on organizational needs and aligning with USC and HR strategic plans.
Performing other related responsibilities as requested; USC reserves the right to modify duties as needed.
Please note : This is a two-year fixed-term position.
Compensation and Benefits
The budgeted hourly range for this position is $34.35 per hour.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience: 3 years in communications, content development, and writing/editing in employee/internal corporate communications.
Minimum Skills: Extensive experience in employee/internal communications; design/typography experience; strong writing/editing fundamentals and AP style; ability to tailor content to audiences; experience with design software/tools (HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite) and digital assets (WordPress, social media, etc.); excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to provide detailed information and summaries; discretion with confidential information; ability to build and deliver solutions; strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; experience with Microsoft Office and content management systems.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field
Preferred Experience: 5 years in communications, content development, and writing/editing in employee/internal corporate communications
Preferred Skills: Speechwriting for executives; higher education experience; HR knowledge; interpersonal skills and relationship-building; project management and ability to manage multiple priorities; ability to produce quality copy on tight schedules.
