Job Title: Controls Engineer – Automation & PLC Systems
Location: Traverse City, MI

Overview:
An innovative and growth-focused manufacturer in Traverse City, MI is looking for a Controls Engineer to take ownership of PLC programming, automation systems, and electrical troubleshooting in a production-driven environment.

This is a key technical role with plenty of autonomy and visibility.

You’ll work alongside a collaborative team of engineers and operations staff to optimize automation systems, lead controls-related projects, and troubleshoot issues that impact efficiency and uptime.

What You’ll Do:



  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)


  • Design, maintain, and improve electrical control systems for machinery and automation equipment


  • Support integration of new equipment and upgrades of existing systems


  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering to improve uptime and throughput


  • Interpret electrical schematics and panel layouts


  • Assist with HMI development and system interfaces


  • Help manage control system documentation and change management


  • Troubleshoot sensors, drives, motors, and I/O systems on the floor


What We’re Looking For:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent experience)


  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with PLC programming and automation systems


  • Familiarity with controls hardware, electrical systems, and safety circuits


  • Strong troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing setting


  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship


  • Bonus: experience with robotics, HMI development, or motion control
