This position is ideal for an experienced technician who thrives on solving complex automation problems and wants to make a measurable impact on equipment performance, uptime, and safety.

Working within the Engineering Department and reporting to the Controls Engineering Manager, this role functions as a technical expert in automation, PLCs, HMIs, and control systems.

It blends the field-level work of installation and troubleshooting with cross-functional collaboration and process improvement.

Responsibilities Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex automated machinery and controls systems (PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, servos).

Analyze performance issues using data, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methods.

Read, interpret, and modify electrical schematics using AutoCAD or similar software.

Support continuous improvement activities by recommending and implementing controls and automation upgrades.

Lead or participate in cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, facilities, and sanitation.

Provide mentorship to support personnel and assist in training efforts related to controls systems.

Communicate clearly across all levels of the organization, from frontline staff to engineering leadership.

Manage relationships with vendors and contractors to complete technical work safely and to standard.

Use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation, communication, and reporting.

Qualifications High school diploma required; technical degree or equivalent strongly preferred.

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a controls technician, controls engineering, or industrial electrician role.

Advanced hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo systems.

Solid understanding of industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS-I).

Skilled in interpreting electrical drawings for troubleshooting and design support.

Proficient in the use of standard diagnostic and installation tools (multimeter, laptop, wire strippers, crimpers, etc.).

Experience with AutoCAD or similar for schematic modification and printing.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Self-motivated with a natural ability to prioritize and drive work to completion.

Preferred Attributes Experience working in GMP-regulated environments.

Exposure to startup and commissioning of new equipment.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing project needs.
