Job description

Summary This position is located at the Peak but may fill other vacancies in the Business Recreation Division.

This position is for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) at Fort Drum, New York.

FMWR includes Child and Youth Services, Business Recreation, and Support Services, which enable Soldier readiness, support the resilience and well-being of Soldiers and Families.

Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will NOT be paid.

Responsibilities Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables.

Prepares hot cereals and concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces and gravies; makes cold sandwich fillings and may set-up or replenish a salad bar.

Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using multiple heat sources; disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, after cleaning all equipment; cleans work areas after each use.

Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food and ensures that foods are stored at the correct temperatures to prevent bacteria growth.

Higher-grade cook is available to answer technical questions and to ensure that the work is being done properly.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Resumes must be two pages (or less).

Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: experience preparing basic food dishes, storing foods to prevent spoiling, etc., AND ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions, AND ability to operate, disassemble and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders, AND ability to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply etc...) to measure ingredients in a recipe.

Area of Consideration This job is open to candidates who are U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals that have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation and reside within the Local Commuting Area (defined as 100-mile radius) of Fort Drum, NY.

Spouse Employment Preference (SEP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) are included in this area of consideration.

PCS Costs Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are NOT authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is NOT in the Government's interest.

Allowances and Differentials This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system.

FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit.

Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays.

Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.

Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will NOT be paid.
