Job Title: Coordinating Engineer
Location: Penns Park, PADepartment:Forensic Engineering
The Forensic Engineer serves as a key contributor within a multidisciplinary team, providing case-specific technical expertise in the role ofCoordinating Engineer.
This position involves applying advanced knowledge and education in one or more forensic disciplines, including Accident Reconstruction (such as pedestrian and vehicle collisions, other transportation modes, “Who was Driving?” investigations, and Heavy Truck Event Data Recorder analysis), Biomechanical and Human Factors Analysis (evaluating how injuries occurred and their relationship to incident dynamics, including slip, trip, and fall events), and Failure Analysis (encompassing product, mechanical system, and structural failures).
The role requires a balance of analytical and hands-on work, from inspecting physical evidence and utilizing advanced technologies to assisting with case coordination and expert analysis.
Success in this position relies on technical precision, curiosity, and a proactive approach to supporting forensic investigations and team collaboration.
Responsibilities
+ Provide project support to experts who are investigating and analyzing accidents, failures, and injuries.
+ Participate in inspections (often onsite) with the expert team and observe the expert documenting the physical evidence.
+ Utilize 3D laser scanners and other leading software to assist with forensic analysis.
+ Assist with preservation of physical evidence.
+ Observe the process of researching, reconstructing, and analyzing all of the facts to determine what happened with your assigned cases.
+ Observe the lifecycle of a case – from the initial investigation and digital preservation of the evidence to performing testing as instructed by the expert(s).
+ Assist and support the experts with pre-deposition and pre-trial preparation of exhibits and reports.
+ Assist the experts with data collection for publication in technical journals.
+ Participate in the research and development of innovative research methodologies for publication in technical journals.
+ Attend and conduct technical lectures, as assigned, to various audiences and groups.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biomechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
+ Flexibility and adaptability to field environments and courtroom environments.
+ Excellent communicator of technical findings.
+ Passion for cause/effect analysis and a strong curiosity to explore physical evidence.
+ Enthusiastic about engaging in all learning opportunities.
+ Enjoys opportunities to present and conduct technical lectures to audiences of all sizes.
