Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges.

It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

The Office of Academic Affairs at Virginia Peninsula Community College is devoted to creating and sustaining educational opportunities and experiences that cultivate adept learners, employees, and community members.

It assumes a crucial role in bolstering students by delivering diverse services and initiatives designed to elevate their academic achievements.

The Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs offers guidance and facilitates coordination among various units within Academic Affairs to advance these pursuits.

Collaborating closely with other administrative offices, the Office of Academic Affairs strives to elevate the overall excellence of education and reinforce the institution’s mission and objectives.

The Coordinator of Secondary Programs provides support to the college and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for all matters related to Dual Enrollment.

The Coordinator of Secondary Programs is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the dual enrollment program, which provides high school students with the opportunity to enroll in college courses and earn both high school and college credit.

The coordinator works closely with high school partners, college faculty, students, and parents to ensure the program runs smoothly and meets all regulatory and institutional standards.

This role requires experience in curriculum management, proficiency in educational technologies, strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications · Significant experience working at the high school or college level, with a deep understanding of educational practices, student needs, and the ability to implement and manage complex educational initiatives.


· Proven success in coordinating and leading programs—particularly dual enrollment or other college-preparatory initiatives—demonstrating strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to innovate by creating and expanding new program offerings and support services.


· Experience in developing and aligning curriculum for dual enrollment courses, with a strong understanding of academic standards, learning outcomes, and the integration of college-level content into high school settings.


· Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders—including high school administrators, college faculty, students, and parents—showing the interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills expected in educational leadership roles.


· Skilled in delivering presentations, workshops, and informational sessions, with the ability to clearly articulate complex educational concepts.


· Familiarity with educational policies and regulations governing dual enrollment programs, with the ability to ensure compliance with state and institutional requirements.


· Active participation in professional organizations related to education, dual enrollment, or college readiness, reflecting a strong commitment to continuous professional growth and networking.

· Holds certifications in educational leadership, curriculum development, or instructional practice, demonstrating specialized expertise and a strong commitment to the field of education.

Knowledge:
· Strong understanding of both secondary (high school) and postsecondary (college/university) systems, including curricula alignment, dual credit eligibility, credit transfer, assessment standards, and application of state and national education standards in program design and evaluation.


· Knowledge of state laws, institutional policies, accreditation requirements, eligibility rules, funding models (e.g., tuition waivers, state funding), and overall legal compliance governing dual enrollment programs.


· Understanding of college admissions, enrollment, and registration procedures for nontraditional populations (e.g., high school students), with familiarity in related student services such as academic advising, financial aid, and transfer credit policies.


· Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), online registration platforms, and other technologies that support program administration.



Skills:

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, combined with exceptional interpersonal abilities to engage diverse stakeholders—including students, parents, school administrators, faculty, and institutional leaders—and to build and maintain collaborative relationships with school partners, students, and colleagues.


· Strong attention to detail in managing records, tracking student performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.


· Skilled in using data-driven decision-making to improve program outcomes and address student or institutional concerns.


· Proficient in student information systems (SIS), databases, spreadsheets, and other software tools for data entry, tracking, and reporting.


· Experienced in developing marketing materials, managing social media platforms, and planning recruitment events.


· Expertise in maintaining accurate records of enrollment, grades, course completion, and program outcomes, as well as preparing detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.



Ability to:

· Deliver presentations, workshops, and orientations for students and school staff.
· Develop and execute outreach strategies to promote programs to high school students, parents/guardians, and educators.
· Establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with high schools, districts, and other educational stakeholders, while engaging effectively with parents and guardians to provide information and address dual/concurrent enrollment concerns.
· Manage complex relationships and resolve conflicts between institutions or stakeholders.
· Provide guidance to high school students on course selection, enrollment, and academic success.
· Demonstrate patience and empathy in helping students adjust to college-level coursework while balancing high school responsibilities and effectively managing diverse student populations with varying academic backgrounds.
· Manage multiple tasks and coordinate scheduling, registration, outreach, and event planning within the Office of Secondary Programs.
· Evaluate challenges, develop creative solutions, and adapt to changing policies, program requirements, and institutional needs.
· Work independently to manage tight deadlines, balance multiple projects, and maintain high-quality work.
· Commit to ongoing professional learning to remain current with best practices in dual enrollment, higher education, and K-12 partnerships.
· Learn and effectively utilize enterprise systems, course registration tools, and scheduling technologies to support program operations.
· To align high school and college-level courses to meet the academic needs of both institutions while ensuring compliance with dual credit standards.
· Work at all campus locations.
