About the Role

As a Cost Engineer reporting to the Sr. Project Manager and working closely with the Cost Manager, you will support the Borough-Based Jails (BBJ) Program, a visible 6-year, large-scale project in New York City.

This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with proven experience managing cost controls on projects exceeding $100M.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage program cost controls, including budget updates, forecasting, and earned value tracking.
  • Review contractor change orders, cost proposals, and schedules of values.
  • Track and reconcile payments, invoices, and commitments at both the project and program level.
  • Support contractor claim reviews and assist in negotiations.
  • Coordinate with estimators, schedulers, and project managers to deliver integrated reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly cost reports, variance analyses, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings to provide progress updates.
  • Support implementation and optimization of cost control software.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher in engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, estimating, or cost management.
  • Proven experience on large-scale ($100M+) construction programs.
  • Experience with NYC public agencies (DDC, MTA, SCA, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery methods desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in cost management software (Primavera Cost Manager, Prism, ProCore, E-Builder, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, dashboards).
  • Proficiency with MS Office and SharePoint.
