Coverage Specialist, Third Party Claims

We are seeking a detail-oriented Coverage Specialist, Third Party Claims to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the oversight and discovery management of all pending declaratory actions involving policy recissions for those claims where third party coverage is involved.

The role requires excellent communication and organizational skills as well as having a litigation background.

This role requires the ability to work collaboratively with legal teams and liability claims adjusters during the course of litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review incoming declaratory actions to assess the merits of the recission and complete an initial file review

  • Complete a detailed analysis of claims where a new suit has been received, inclusive of coverage with an action plan

  • Manage and direct all discovery pertaining to the DJA

  • Manage and oversee litigation processes, working closely with legal counsel to develop strategies for case resolution

  • Communicate with the underlying tort adjuster as to the status of action while providing all relevant updates

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all claims activities and communications

  • Stay up to date with changes in laws and regulations to ensure claims handling compliance

  • Comply with conditions outlined in the Unfair Claim Practices Acts

  • Onsite and/or virtual court-ordered appearances are required in the state you are located in as needed by the company 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience in the insurance industry

  • Years/Type of Experience: A minimum of 1 year of claim handling experience or 1 year of MI legal experience

  • Strong knowledge of the Litigation Process in the insurance industry

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple claims simultaneously

  • Physical Actions/Environment: Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 5 lbs.

    Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing.

    Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.

    Starting Salary: $65,000-$75,000

    Schedule: Full-Time; Monday – Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm.

    We offer a hybrid work schedule: team members work onsite 4 days per week and have the flexibility to work remotely 1 day per week.

    Location: Southfield, MI, Detroit, MI or Princeton, NJ
