Opened in 2006 and housed in a building designed by renowned architect Ieoh Ming Pei, Mudam is Luxembourg’s contemporary art museum.

Our mission is to collect, preserve and present the most relevant contemporary art of our time and make it accessible to a wide audience.

We aim to be a key player in promoting and understanding contemporary art through our exhibitions, publications, and artistic and educational programmes.

Our museum has always been a place of artistic creation and collaboration with artists.

Located in Europe at the heart of a cosmopolitan country with 170 nationalities, Mudam strives to engage all communities and promote access to contemporary art.

We aim to make the museum a lively and accessible space for all, where contemporary societal issues can be addressed and debated.

Role

Under the supervision of deputy manager of the department, the editor is in charge of all of the museum’s published content, from exhibition guides to curatorial texts, Mudam editions or co-publications.

They collaborate closely with the museum staff – in particular the curatorial team – producing and editing texts, as well as with external contacts dedicated to each project: authors, translators, proofreaders, etc.

The editor ensures that content is of high quality and complies with current standards and with the museum's editorial guidelines.

They contribute to the development of the museum's editorial policy.

As such, they keep an eye on developments in the field of contemporary art and publishing.

Editorial responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees editorial content and guidelines with the support of internal and external collaborators.
  • Assesses the editorial quality of texts through critical review.
  • Evaluates the quality and consistency of translations.
  • Makes content corrections (spelling, typography, syntax, meaning, phrasing, style).
  • Conducts proofreading and verifies corrections.
  • Reviews drafts of all communication materials at each validation stage, up to the final print approval.
  • Ensures the quality control of work delivered by service providers; regularly performs editorial audits and provides recommendations.
  • Ensures that all authorisations and rights for reproduction of texts and images are obtained.
  • Provides editorial support for the museum's communication material, in addition to the publications they oversee.
  • Works closely with the department's editorial coordinator: exchanging best practice, maintaining a shared database of service providers, discussing changes to the museum's editorial charter, etc.

General coordination

  • Supervises the creation and monitoring of the production timeline for their publication projects, aligning it with the department’s calendar and available resources.
  • Develops and ensures production workflows from editorial coordination to proofreading and fact-checking for all internal and external content, proposing adjustments when necessary to improve efficiency.
  • Manages and develops Mudam’s network of external service providers (translators, proofreaders, editors) in the three production languages (French, German, English).
  • Acts as a liaison with external partners (artists, galleries, institutional partners, sponsors, etc.), submitting drafts for approval according to agreed terms.
  • Represents the museum in its editorial policy, liaising with contacts in the sector and taking part in professional events within the allocated time and budget.

Profile

  • Master’s degree in art history, theory or a related field.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar position, ideally in a museum, gallery, publication or cultural institution
  • Perfect control of the editorial production chain and the management of editorial projects
  • Excellent writing skills in French and English.

    German language will be considered an asset
  • Organisation and rigour with particular attention to detail, you are recognised for your excellent command of syntax and impeccable spelling
  • Perfect knowledge of intellectual property law
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to manage time and priorities, as well as stress
  • Developed team spirit
  • Proficiency in office tools (Adobe Indesign, Word, Excel, etc.)
