The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution.

DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6, employees.

DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2, square mile watershed that extends miles north and west of the city.

The Cyber Security Analyst position is responsible for analyzing the impact of security programs on all applications.

This role includes coordinating the development and governance of application security.

The analyst will recommend information assurance and security solutions to support business requirements.

The analyst will also ensure that IT security considerations are applied across all layers of the technological infrastructure, including networks, systems, and applications.

All tasks must follow established enterprise and industry policies, procedures, and standards.

Under the direction of the Information Security Officer the Cyber Security Analyst I will be responsible for the duties outlined below:

-Design, install, administer, and optimize agency servers and related components to achieve high performance for business applications by tuning servers as needed.
- Oversee enterprise security solutions, monitor evolving threats, and select and enhance security tools according to the procurement process.
- Establish the enterprise security posture by developing policies, security architecture, and training programs.

Maintain documentation, the Business Continuity Plan, and the Disaster Recovery
Plan.
- Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data residing on or transmitted to/from/through enterprise workstations, servers, and other systems, as well as in databases and other
data repositories.
- Conduct regular security awareness training; coordinate with Systems, Networking, and business units to align security goals and promote cooperation.
- Design and develop solutions to complex application problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.

CYBER SECURITY ANALYST -


Minimum Qualifications

1.

A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college including or supplemented by twenty-four semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or

2.

A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; or

3.

Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”, above.

College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” above on the basis that sixty semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience.

In addition, twenty-four credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or a certificate of at least hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.


Preferred Skills
- Incident response, forensic investigation, threat analysis and remediation.

- Monitoring security events, SIEM, log analysis, vulnerability scanning.

- Familiarity with security frameworks and regulatory compliance (e.g. NIST, ISO , COBIT).

- Policy development, BCP/DRP, security architecture and awareness training.

- Tools/technologies: ATP, SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, dashboards, and forensic tools.

- Soft skills: communication, collaboration, risk communication Certification: CISSP, CompTIA Security+, GIAC, CISM, CISA
