We are recruiting an Artist in Residence to undertake artistic research focused on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology, in the context of the UKRI grant ‘’.
The postholder will be based in the Department of Art & Media Technology at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, within the Critical Infrastructures and Image Politics research group ().
The role involves conducting independent artistic research and collaborating with the research team, contributing to methodology, research process, and outcomes.
The project aims to study DAS technology from interdisciplinary perspectives, including arts, humanities, social, and physical sciences.
We welcome applicants from diverse practices, especially those with experience in community work, interdisciplinary research, and critical approaches to technology and infrastructure.
Relevant fields include civic and community technology, feminist and decolonial approaches, sound art, algorithmic governance, media and cultural studies, digital media, and environmental approaches.
Applicants should have a portfolio of research projects; a PhD is not required.

This part-time role (21 hours/week) offers a salary of £36,130 to £40,497 per annum, pro-rata (£21,678 - £24,298).
