Job description

Position Overview:

Cybersecurity Engineer is a hands-on role that requires an advanced level of technical expertise and communication.

The person in this position is responsible for a broad range of tasks, including but not limited to, the day-to-day administration of information security tools and devices, analyzing new/existing security threats and recommending security measures to safeguard against them, establishing/updating actionable security metrics, monitoring and management of the information security mailbox and associated ticket queues, which includes the analysis and appropriate response to suspected phishing attacks, security incidents, etc.

The individual in this position will need to interact closely with product vendors and service providers, with personnel from various IT departments — including the application development, operations and network, and privacy/compliance teams — and with business departments.

In-depth knowledge of HomeServe’s operating systems and security applications, and basic network protocols and tools are also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the HomeServe business units and with other risk functions to identify security requirements, using methods that may include risk and business impact assessments.

  • Develop strategies and plans to achieve security requirements and address identified risks.

  • Performs control and vulnerability assessments to identify control weaknesses and assess the effectiveness of existing controls and recommends remedial action.

  • Report to HomeServe management concerning residual risk, vulnerabilities and other security exposures, including misuse of information assets and noncompliance.

  • Plays an advisory role in application development or acquisition projects, to assess security requirements and controls and ensure that security controls are implemented as planned.

  • Collaborates on IT projects to ensure that security issues are addressed throughout the project life cycle.

  • Assists in the development of security architecture and security policies, principles and standards.

  • Develops security processes and procedures and to ensure that security controls are managed and maintained.

  • Defines security configuration and operations standards for security systems and applications, including policy assessment and compliance tools, network security appliances, and host-based security systems.

  • Develops and validates baseline security configurations for operating systems, applications, networking and telecommunications equipment.

  • Assists with the resolution of audit findings reported by HomeServe's internal or external auditors.

  • Assists security administrators and IT staff in the resolution of reported security incidents.

  • Assists and trains junior team members in the use of security tools, the preparation of security reports and the resolution of security issues.

  • Advises security administrators on normal and exception-based processing of security authorization requests.

  • Participates in security investigations and compliance reviews as requested by internal or external auditors.

  • Researches, evaluates, designs, tests, recommends and plans the implementation of new or updated information security technologies.

  • Researches and assesses new threats and security alerts and recommends remedial action.

  • Monitors the information security mailbox and ticket queues, responding to inquiries and addressing issues in a timely manner.

    Job Requirements:

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field experience.

  • Experience:Minimum five (5) years of experience in the Information Security field.

  • Certifications (preferred):CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or equivalent security certifications.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge and understanding of security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
    Experience with security technologies such as SOC, SIEM, EDR, firewalls, IAM, and cloud security solutions.
    Technical knowledge of operating systems and a wide range of security technologies, such as network security appliances, anti-malware solutions, automated policy compliance and desktop security tools.
    Hands-on experience with incident response, penetration testing, and forensic investigations.
    Proficiency in performing risk, business impact, control and vulnerability assessments.
    Knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, WiFi and associated network protocols and concepts.
    Experience in developing, documenting and maintaining security policies, processes, procedures and standards.


  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex cybersecurity concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating threats.
    Meticulous attention to detail in monitoring systems, analyzing logs, and documentation.
    Proven adaptability in fast-paced environments with evolving security challenges and technologies.
    Effective team player with strong collaboration skills across IT, compliance, and business units.
