Job description

Join our team of technology, financial services and data experts.

Credit Benchmark is a financial data analytics company that has partnered with the world’s leading financial institutions to create the largest and most sophisticated contributed credit risk data platform in the market.

We help clients identify, quantify, and monitor credit risk across a wide array of exposures by leveraging CB’s unique and sophisticated data and analytics.

The comprehensive nature of CB’s consensus ratings coverage on over 115,000 sovereigns, FIs, NBFIs, corporates and funds uniquely place CB as the leading provider of credit risk intelligence.

We’re scaling rapidly with growing institutional uptake, expanding index products, and a global risk-data platform that’s expanding coverage and depth.

If you’re energized by the intersection of data, risk intelligence, and journalism, this is the moment to join.

The role

We’re looking for a seasoned, highly motivated Data Journalist to become our voice in credit-risk journalism.

You will shape the narrative and editorial strategy around our unique consensus default-risk dataset, helping elevate our brand in the market.

The role has a global remit and entails collaboration with colleagues across London, New York, and Bangalore.

The role is based in our New York City office with a hybrid working pattern involving a minimum of three days in the office.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Translate firm- and sector-level credit consensus data into engaging, actionable stories.
  • Collaborate with credit analysts, data scientists, and SMEs to create narrative-rich articles, charts, and visualizations.
  • Drive our media engagement, proactively pitching trends and insights to journalists and editors.
  • Lead regular sessions with our commercial team to review insights and market sentiment.
  • Monitor financial, geopolitical, and macro trends to feed into the editorial calendar.
  • Deliver rapid-turnaround analyses – whether for commercial teams, clients, or media requests.
  • Amplify stories through social and professional channels – engaging clients, press, and the broader risk management community.

What we are looking for

  • University degree in Economics, Finance, Data Journalism, or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years’ relevant experience should include at least 2 years focused on data journalism in financial media.
  • Deep understanding of credit markets, probability of default, and geopolitical-economic drivers.
  • Strong proficiency in quantitative analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, SQL).
  • Familiarity and comfort with using AI tools for efficiency and impact.
  • Visual storytelling skills – experience with tools like Tableau or Power BI is a strong plus.
  • Published writing samples that demonstrate clear, insightful storytelling based on data.
  • Ability to juggle fast-moving timelines and multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communicator – comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, press, and audiences online.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • The annual base salary for this position is $100K-125K dependent on skillset and experience.
  • Vacation: Competitive holiday package
  • Health and Wellbeing: Private medical, dental and vision cover, paid sick and bereavement leave
  • 401(K): Opportunity to join company 401(K) scheme
  • Hybrid and flexible working: Healthy work/life balance
  • Family Friendly: Supportive environment and generous paid leave for new parents
  • Learning and Development: Professional development opportunities through seminars, conferences, training and courses and internal mentorship
  • Community: Supportive, collaborative and social team environment
