Position Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the architecture, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of organizational databases.
This role ensures the security, integrity, and availability of critical data assets while supporting the organization’s operational and analytical needs.
The DBA will work closely with application developers, system administrators, and cybersecurity staff to ensure database performance meets operational requirements and complies with applicable security standards.
Key Responsibilities
Database Management & Administration
+ Install, configure, and maintain database management systems, including SQL Server and other approved platforms.
+ Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and load balancing.
+ Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to protect against data loss.
Data Security & Compliance
+ Implement and enforce database access controls, user permissions, and encryption protocols in accordance with cybersecurity guidelines.
+ Monitor for and remediate security vulnerabilities, coordinating with the cybersecurity team to address potential risks.
+ Maintain audit trails and logs to ensure compliance with federal and organizational security requirements.
Support & Collaboration
+ Partner with application developers to design and implement database structures that support application requirements.
+ Troubleshoot database-related performance issues and coordinate solutions across IT teams.
+ Provide input for capacity planning and future database infrastructure improvements.
Documentation & Reporting
+ Maintain detailed records of database configurations, schema designs, and maintenance activities.
+ Produce technical documentation for internal knowledge bases and operational continuity.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Database Administration, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
+ 3+ years of professional database administration experience in a secure or regulated environment.
+ Proficiency in SQL Server management and scripting, with a solid understanding of relational database design principles.
+ Experience with database monitoring tools, backup/recovery solutions, and disaster recovery planning.
Certifications
+ Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent preferred.
+ ITIL certification a plus.
Security Requirements
+ Must be eligible for a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
+ Completion of required federal cybersecurity and privacy training prior to system access.
