POSITION SUMMARY
The University Communications Writer serves the broad DePauw University community.
The writer addresses internal and external communications through web, print, and digital content.
This position will work in close collaboration with all members of the Communications and Marketing team and its university and external partners to ensure consistent, multiplatform messaging that advances the priorities of DePauw University.
The writer's work will align with the elevated university brand in style and tone, as envisioned by the Creative Director, to heighten the university's reputation.
This role will require an independent understanding of the larger university context and how various initiatives support and enhance the execution of the university's mission and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Write and edit copy for a wide variety of communications for DePauw University.
- Write for the web, email, print, and digital marketing.
- Contribute to the DePauw magazine with content, organization, and proofing.
- Assist university leadership with formal briefings, announcements, or presentations.
- Assist the senior director of communications in writing and distributing press releases as needed.
- Assist university partners, such as development and alumni engagement, enrollment management, and athletics, as needed, and be a standard-bearer for university brand messaging.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand the university brand and develop strategies that strengthen that brand.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to deliver innovative, high-impact communications to meet the evolving needs of the University and campus partners.
Other support functions
- Provide limited support for and training for university writing partners in DePauw Content Management Systems or other marketing platforms.
- Contribute to the Communications Pod of the university's Critical Incident Management Team.
- Other duties at the direction of the Senior Director of Communications.
Qualifications:
- Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Communication, Written - Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
- Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
- Diversity Oriented - Commitment to valuing a variety of different experiences, encouraging input and collaboration from campus stakeholders, including being mindful of experiences related, but not limited to: age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, LGBTQ, and/or job type.

- Time Management - Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, writing, or related field.
MFA or other continuing education is appreciated. - Three (3) years of writing, strategic communication, public relations, or executive communications.
Experience in higher education is valued. - Knowledge of AP style and the ability to become a go-to expert in the university's style guidelines is valued.
- Ability to proof and/or enroll teammates to proof content for accuracy and grammar.
- Ability to respond or properly direct common inquiries or complaints from various university stakeholders.
