Job description

Overview The Washington Times is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and resourceful individual to join our digital team.

The Digital Editor/Social Media will play a vital role in publishing and promoting The Washington Times across all digital assets.

This is a hybrid role, primarily on the social media team, and includes managing and updating The Washington Times’ digital platforms.

The candidate must possess sharp news judgment and a solid understanding of what makes a story stand out online for web presentation, on news aggregation sites and on all social media platforms.
The ideal candidate is proficient in copy editing techniques and AP style and will have a solid understanding of The Washington Times’ audience, along with the ability to recognize what makes a story resonate with readers.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C. newsroom with some flexibility for remote days.

A fully remote position may be considered for an ideal candidate located outside of the Washington, D.C. region.

The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday and may include evenings and holidays as needed.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.

One to five years of relevant online, copy editing or other newsroom experience are required.

Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with social media best practices are required.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and a proven ability to meet competing deadlines are necessary.

Responsibilities Publish and promote The Washington Times across all digital assets and platforms.
Manage and update The Washington Times’ digital platforms; support the social media team.
Apply sharp news judgment to online presentation of stories for web, aggregation sites and social media.
Copy edit content in AP style and align with The Washington Times’ audience and voice.
Coordinate with newsroom to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
One to five years of online, copy editing or newsroom experience.
Knowledge of social media best practices.
Strong copy editing skills and AP style proficiency.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines.
