Director, Data Engineering - Marketing Data Platform

Capital One is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to work in our Marketing and Messaging organization.

Capital One's Marketing and Messaging team within Enterprise Platforms Technology is responsible for all our marketing and servicing messages that we send to our customers and prospects.

Messaging is critical to our business and we are on a multi-year modernization journey to streamline and build a destination messaging ecosystem that will delight our customers and improve our time to market.
This individual will lead and manage the Marketing Data Platform teams, while being accountable to drive a cohesive data strategy across Marketing & Messaging in collaboration with multiple enterprise partners.

This role will build teams to deliver highly performant and scalable data platforms to drive consumption of data from our enterprise data ecosystem, while driving data engineering best practices.
This leader must have the ability to attract and recruit the industry's best talent, and simultaneously have the technical chops to ensure that we build compelling, customer-oriented solutions in an iterative methodology.

You will:
Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product focused software & data engineers
Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open-source products across all platforms
Work to modernize our existing tech stacks and data platforms
Collaborate with internal teams to find areas of opportunities for automation and machine learning
Partner with architects, product owners, data professionals, and software & data engineers to drive the implementation of new applications
Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies
Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments and provide operational support for the applications
Conduct design and code review to ensure compliance with standards
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
At least 7 years of experience in Data Engineering
At least 5 years of experience in Software Engineering
At least 5 years of people management experience
At least 3 years of experience with Big Data and Data Streaming
At least 3 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree
12+ years of experience in Data Engineering
10+ years of hands-on experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, SQL etc.
10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
7+ years of experience in Software Engineering
5+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services)
3+ years of experience with Data Lake Infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Data Analytics tools

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location.

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Data Engineering
New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Data Engineering
Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Data Engineering
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).

Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
