The GSB Library of the Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks aDirector, Library Finance and Technical Operations(Library Manager 1).
As part of the GSB Research Hub, the GSB Library engages with faculty members, researchers, and students across the lifecycle of research, teaching, and scholarship.
As a Director at the GSB Library, you’ll help realize our vision of the library as an environment where our users not only find the information they need, but also access a wide variety of tools and services to use, manipulate, and represent data.
TheDirector, Library Finance and Technical Operationsis responsible for managing the Library’s budget and leads the Technical Services areas of the library, including Cataloging, Serials and Materials Processing, and Data and Database Procurement.
The Director is responsible for engaging with other stakeholders in planning and monitoring collections spending, including regular budget updates with respect to fiscal-year targets.
The incumbent will set standards and provide hands-on metadata and cataloging for specialized materials, and set priorities as part of the Library Leadership team, in consultation with technical services specialists, IT specialists, and other University Libraries.
This role also leads service-oriented technical services operations, including strategic planning and management of departmental personnel.
Serves as a member of the Library’s management team.
The role requires a deep understanding of library budget management and technical services operations, as well as the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment of library and Research Hub managers, subject matter experts, and technical specialists.
**Your primary responsibilities include:**
**Financial Management**
+ As Library Finance Director, engage with library and Research Hub leadership in planning and monitoring collections spending, including regular budget updates with respect to fiscal-year targets
+ Manage and oversee library budget, reporting bi-weekly updates to the Director, Business Library
+ Perform acquisitions and vendor management, frequently involving cross-departmental engagement and communications
+ Ensure timely follow-through on purchase, renewal, withdrawal, and cancellation decisions; monitor and approve bill payments; verify compliance and spend categories are assigned appropriately; anticipate annual budget expenditures and monitor expenses
+ Contribute to discussions of selections, consortial arrangements, license reviews, and vendor negotiations
+ Collaborate with Research Hub and library leadership in preparing annual budget requests for submission to GSB
**Technical Operations**
+ Maintain and update metadata in the electronic resource management system
+ Oversee physical materials management, including inventory management (receiving, accessing, moving)
+ Oversee compliance and business processes for purchasing in Stanford procurement systems, including library supplies, materials orders, travel, and other reimbursements
+ Collaboratively develop and align unit goals and resources with library priorities and direction; articulate a compelling long-term vision for Technical Operations
+ In collaboration with Collections teams and specialists across the Research Hub, create, maintain, and enhancemetadata across multiple discovery platforms and library systems
+ Participate in the ongoing development of the university catalog system, FOLIO
+ Keep current on technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies for adoption and implementation to enhance library programs, services, and collections
**Organizational Leadership/Operations**
+ Coach, inspire, and mentor Technical Operations support staff and others to ensure the effective organization of departmental workflows
+ As part of the Library Leadership team, participate in library planning initiatives, and develop policies and procedures responsive to the organization's mission, goals, and objectives
+ Participate on library, university, and consortia committees
**To be successful in this position, you will bring:**
+ Master’s Degree in Library Science and five years of relevant experience in an academic library setting including at least three years of management experience in increasingly responsible positions or a combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Ability to think outside the box and develop processes that are efficient, even if they are not traditional
+ Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining library budgets
+ Experience with Electronic Resource Management systems (ERMs)
+ Proficiency with spreadsheet and/or database software
+ Demonstrated expertise with relevant standards for metadata and data management practices and requirements, including broad standards such as MARC and Dublin Core
+ Expertise in cataloging to defined standards and technical services management.
+ Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results
+ Effective problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
+ Demonstrated broad knowledge of Library Services Platforms (LSPs), Content Management Systems (CMS) (both web and digital assets), and platform integrations
+ Experience using technologies to provide and enhance library services and their changing roles in higher education
**In addition, desired skills and experience include:**
+ Advanced Degree in Library and Information Science and five years of relevant experience in an academic library setting, including at least five years of management experience in increasingly responsible positions or a combination of education and relevant experience; a postgraduate degree in a related discipline may be substituted for a master’s degree in information science
+ Preference will be given to a candidate with a second Master's or PhD
+ Understanding of the research process as demonstrated by academic or work experience
+ Demonstrated initiative in fostering new ideas and implementing change
+ Evidence of engagement in relevant professional or academic communities
The expected pay range for this position is $167,298 to $201,259 per year

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
