The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) invites applications for a Director of Student Success in Mathematics.
This position provides unique opportunities for professional growth through leadership development programs and participation in campus-wide initiatives.
This is a full-time position that will report to the Dean of Natural Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences, who oversees both the Department of Applied Mathematics (APPM) and the Department of Mathematics (MATH).
The position is collectively supported by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Undergraduate Education, and the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
As the Director of Student Success in Mathematics, you will work directly with campus leaders, staff, and faculty to coordinate effort, resources, and strategies to create an ecosystem with shared responsibility for improving student success in mathematics.
The role will involve strategic leadership, collaboration, and instructional innovation to enhance mathematics learning outcomes for all students.
The Director of Student Success in Mathematics will be hired as a Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) of appropriate rank with a joint appointment in the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Department of Mathematics.
The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2026, with the possibility of an earlier start date.

The Department of Applied Mathematics is home to twenty tenured and tenure-track faculty members and thirteen teaching faculty members.
Faculty research spans Computational Mathematics, Nonlinear Mathematics including Nonlinear Dynamics and Waves, Mathematical Biology, Physical Applied Mathematics, Probability, and Statistics.
The Department of Mathematics also has a broad range of research interests, including Algebraic and Differential Geometry, Combinatorics, Logic and Foundations, Mathematical Physics, Partial Differential Equations, Number Theory, Noncommutative Geometry, Operator Algebras, Probability, and Topology.
The Department has twenty-four tenured and tenure-track faculty members and eight teaching faculty members, as well as eleven postdoctoral fellows and visiting faculty.
Together, these two departments provide math education for most of the colleges and schools at CU Boulder, especially the College of Engineering and Applied Science - ranked as a top 10 public graduate engineering program and a top 20 undergraduate engineering program - and the College of Arts and Sciences, home to five Nobel laureates, four National Medal of Science winners, nine MacArthur Genius Award winners, 40 Fulbright Scholars, and 25 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

**What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be**
+ Provide leadership for coordination, assessment, and potential expansion of existing programs, learning centers, and supplemental instruction options to improve student success in mathematics, with a particular focus on increasing pass rates and engagement for all students.
+ Lead a standing committee representing the APPM and MATH departments with participation from other departments with degree programs that have significant math requirements.
This committee will be given the responsibility to review and provide recommendations on existing and new student success initiatives, with a focus on introductory mathematics courses, including Precalculus through Calculus 2.
+ Collaborate with faculty and staff on proven, research-based, innovative teaching practices and student-centered pedagogies, including workshops, training for new instructors, and events that foster faculty collaboration and promote student success in math.
+ Contribute to ongoing improvement of math placement processes and strategies that promote retention and progress toward graduation.
+ Conduct student surveys to gather feedback from students in APPM and MATH courses.
+ Work in close coordination with both math departments, other math-specific programs, and the deans of Natural Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Undergraduate Education to promote student success in undergraduate mathematics, leveraging both the synergies and the differing needs of the student populations in the two departments.
+ Coordinate with campus resources, such as academic advising, to direct students toward the non-academic support they need to be successful in their math studies, including assistance with the transition from high school to college and maintenance of mental well-being.
+ Analyze and use data to inform decision-making and track the effectiveness of student success initiatives, incorporating retention metrics, predictive analytics, and formative approaches to enhance progress with student retention and success for all students.
+ Teach courses in the APPM and MATH departments, with flexibility in teaching load as the needs' change.
**What You Should Know**

**What We Can Offer**
The salary range for the Teaching Professor portion of this 12-month appointment is $85,000 - $100,000 and the additional compensation as director will be of $25,000 - $30,000, commensurate with rank, experience, and other qualifications.

**What We Require**
+ A graduate degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
+ Demonstrated extensive experience in instructional leadership, student success initiatives, or related roles within an academic setting.
+ A minimum of five years of demonstrated success in teaching mathematics at the college level, excluding instruction conducted while a graduate student.
+ Experience teaching mathematics at the college level in the calculus sequence.
