Overview  

Utah State University seeks a highly collaborative, self-motivated, and experienced professional to play a key role in fulfillment of the Center for Community's purpose to cultivate goodwill and greater understanding on campus and within the communities the university serves.

The Education & Operations Coordinator (Program Coordinator III) is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing educational programs, events, engagement opportunities, and outreach efforts representing the various traditions, perspectives, and cultures at USU and within the local communities.

This position will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center including supervision of staff.

Responsibilities  

Program Development & Implementation: Lead the planning, development, and execution of programs, workshops, celebrations, and events reflecting relevant cultural values, heritages, traditions, histories, contributions, and contemporary issues in alignment with the Center's purpose.

Review and evaluate areas of programmatic growth and potential grants for the Center.

Cultural Celebrations & Heritage Events: Oversee signature events, including various heritage and recognition months/ weeks, highlighting contributions and culture.

Ensure these celebrations are accessible, organized, and reflect the diverse traditions of the community to foster deeper understanding.

Community Building: Cultivate a welcoming environment designed to bring people together to build community and learn from each other.

Form relationships with student organizations, faculty, staff, and community partners to enhance engagement opportunities.

Outreach & Partnerships: Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, alumni, and other community stakeholders to enhance programs and provide opportunities for engagement and learning beyond the university.

Seek collaborative opportunities with other institutions and initiatives.

Represent the Center in outreach programs and on committees, as needed.

Collaboration & Campus Engagement: Work with academic departments, student organizations, and other campus units to identify collaborative opportunities and integrate cultural education, perspectives, and knowledge systems into broader university programs.

Support faculty and staff in providing culturally responsive educational experiences.

Collaborate with stakeholders across campus to create, implement and monitor programs designed to ensure a sense of belonging for all students.

Marketing & Communication: Develop strategies to promote programs and events through social media, email campaigns, and other communication channels.

Provide content for the Center's website.

Ensure broad visibility of engagement efforts and the Center's initiatives.

Assessment & Reporting: Develop and implement mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and events.

Collect data and feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve the quality and impact of programming.

Prepare reports for the Executive Director, university leadership, and external partners.

Budget Management: Assist the Executive Director in managing the Center's operating and programming budgets, ensuring efficient and responsible use of resources and compliance with university policies.

Seek external funding opportunities, including grants, to support programming offered by the Center.

Serve as proxy for the Center's Executive Director.

Supervision: Oversee the operations for the Center for Community's physical spaces including resources, engagement, and involvement.

Recruit, train, and supervise program coordinators, student employees, and interns.

Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Qualifications  

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, intercultural studies, social justice, or a related field plus two years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education, student affairs, diversity and inclusion work, student engagement, or community outreach.

• Substantiated leadership experience including: 

• Independent decision-making capabilities.

• Ability to delegate and empower others effectively.

• A willingness to consistently model optimal job performance.

• Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching, and supervising teams and salaried employees.

• Involvement working with cultural communities and organizations.

• Availability to occasionally work some late or weekend hours for special events or projects.

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Strong skills with Adobe Acrobat.

• Master's degree.

• Grant-writing participation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

• Proven aptness to effectively manage multiple high-yield budgets.

• Demonstrated ability to engage with different populations and build collaborative partnerships.

• Showcased ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences, and in different modes.

• Familiarity with marketing principles and platforms.

• Aptitude to work in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and projects effectively.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with highest levels of integrity and professionalism.

• Knowledge of cultural traditions, histories, current issues, and contributions to higher education and society.

• Ability to foster a sense of community and belonging.

• Strong advocacy and mentorship skills.
