Job description

Summary This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.

It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure.

It is located in the DISA Program Executive Office - Transport (PEO-T) Technical Director's Office.

Responsibilities Performs long range information technology planning and major enterprise architectural activities with the DISN Transport layer (optical, and MPLS).

Planning and designing carrier networks based upon optical, spectrum sharing and Ethernet services.

Development/design of resilient networks based upon underlying telecommunications infrastructure.

Represents the PEO Transport Directorate with DISA, DoD, and commercial organizations on technical subjects.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements: For the 854 and 855 Professional Engineering Series: A.

Degree: professional engineering.

To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

For the 1550 Computer Science Series: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

OR B.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: Professional Registration Written Test Specified academic courses Related curriculum - With this criteria, applicants also need verification of employment from a supervisor stating you have performed professional engineering duties.

Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Designing telecommunication infrastructure to include analyzing terrestrial and submarine fiber optic cable systems, network architecture utilizing underlying commercial infrastructure (optical and ethernet services) and increasing network resiliency and developing survivable communication systems.

Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume.

All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Education There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-15 grade level Additional Information This position is in the Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

It is being recruited under 10 U.S.C. 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system.

If you are a current Federal Career/Career-Conditional employee, you will be placed on an Excepted appointment.

This appointment does not confer eligibility to be non-competitively converted to an appointment in the competitive service.

A three year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.

Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions at the Defense Information Systems Agency will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.
