Elevator Mechanic (Temporary)
**GENERAL DUTIES**
- Under supervision, inspects, maintains, adjusts and repairs passenger and freight elevator systems; performs related work.
- Lubricates and cleans all components of hydraulic and electric elevator systems.
- Makes adjustments as required to contractors and controllers in the electrical and hydraulic elements of elevator systems.
- Inspects and checks doors, cable rails, bumpers, safeties, overloads, relays, sheaves and governors to assure continued safe operations.
- Re-ropes and re-wires the elevator systems as required.
- Checks out troubles in all types of elevator and escalator systems.
- Makes necessary adjustments and/or repairs to all elevator mechanical and electrical components and their control systems.
- Inspects, maintains, adjusts and repairs escalators, platform lifts, conveyors and dumbwaiters.
- May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
The Main campus of the City College of New York is comprised of 37 tree-lined acres running from 133rd Street to 140th Street in Harlem, bounded by St. Nicholas Terrace and St. Nicholas Park on the East and Amsterdam Avenue on the West.
It includes 15 College buildings at present, as well as the New York State Structural Biology Center including two new state of the art research buildings rising on South Campus.
The College's beautiful original five buildings, designed by George Browne Post in the Neo-Gothic style, have landmark status.
+ Update and modernize older elevator systems by installing new controls and devices
+ Must be able to maintain logs of maintenance, service and inspections per local jurisdiction and campus safety protocols.
+ Must be available for On-call emergencies to minimize downtime and disruption of ADA campus accessibility.
+ Must be able to work closely with other facilities skilled trades and elevator service contractor managing regulatory inspections.
+ Must be sensitive to working in an environment with high pedestrian traffic and strict safety expectations.
+ Prior experience in large facilities and institutions with a large number of Conveying System equipment required, with experience in a college campus
+ candidate must have the ability to keep all mechanical spaces clean and organized and stocked with the proper tooling and material necessary to maintain the equipment in each building.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
1.
Five years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years as an elevator mechanic; OR
2.
Not less than four and one-half years of such experience plus sufficient closely related experience or training acquired in an approved trade or vocational school to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable experience.
Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational school training.
NOTE: At the time of appointment, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Drives License valid in the State of New York.
This license must be maintained for the duration of employment
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Must have the ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair Passenger and Freight Elevators of the following type Geared Traction, Gearless and In-Ground Direct-Acting Hydraulic.
+ Must have experience with Hydraulic Vertical Wheelchair Lifts and Indoor Inclined Wheelchair Lifts.
+ Must have knowledge of ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, NFPA fire, ADA accessibility requirements and NYC and State Building Codes.
+ Experience with computerized controls systems, software diagnostic and integration with building management systems and fire alarm.
+ Must have extensive experience with conveying systems of various manufacturers, including but not limited to TAC 22, MCE 4000, MCE iBox, Q’Thompson relay Logic,G.A.L. ESI and ESCO Elevator Controls.
+ Must possessed a Valid NY State Elevator Mechanic License and a New York City DOB Elevator Technician License.
+ Must possessed valid OSHA 10/30 safety training certification
