Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer - Boca Raton, FL.

This position is based out of the Boca Raton, FL campus with regular travel to the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) in Fort Pierce, FL.


Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) and the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) are seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Engineer to support a broad portfolio of federally-funded projects, including novel underwater, spaceborne, and public-space data acquisition systems.

The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of embedded design, including both hardware and software, with exceptional knowledge of embedded software design.

Significant hands-on experience is expected.




Summary of responsibilities:
+ Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded software for a range of microcontroller architectures, embedded platforms, and peripherals.

This includes electro-optical systems, imaging systems, and a broad range of sensors.
+ Collaborating with scientists and engineering teams to execute the full development lifecycle, from scope definition, to requirements specification, to development and deployment.
+ Creating and maintaining detailed system specifications and associated documentation based on system requirements, hardware components, algorithmic methods, system tests, and more.
+ Performing subsystem validation and evaluation in both laboratory and field environments.
+ Providing mentorship to junior engineers within the team.
+ Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.



Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Experience with additional programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python).

Experience with FPGA programming.

Experience with electro-optical systems, particularly for underwater applications.

Experience with signal and image processing.

Experience with digital micromirror devices is desirable.

Experience with mechanical design is desirable.

Experience with PCB layout.

Previous work experience in a research laboratory in a similar role is desirable.


Salary:
$110,000 - $140,000 per year.
