Job Description

Position Summary

The Technical Advisor (Emissions) plays a critical role in ensuring TMH’s forklifts and components comply with EPA, CARB, and ECCC emissions regulations.

This individual will contribute significantly towards achieving product certification and compliance by developing and executing comprehensive certification and compliance programs.

In this position, the Advisor will be a technical liaison between TICO, JVs, third party test labs, and cross-functional teams within TMH organizations, while providing engine emissions related expertise and guiding the Regulatory Compliance Group to successful certification and compliance throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable operating as a Subject Matter Expert and disseminating information to emissions-related technical teams and as needed, to the broader TMH organization.

This individual may also be expected to report upwards to Regulatory Compliance Group leadership to relay relevant information and technical team updates requiring escalation.

This position is expected to manage the intake and dissemination of all relevant regulatory policies effectively and efficiently within the Company.

As a critical subject matter expert for the Regulatory Compliance Organization, the role will involve supporting interactions with and recurring reporting to regulatory agencies.

Essential Position Duties

  • Demonstrate and maintain critical and in-depth understanding of the current and upcoming emissions regulations.
  • Translate the regulations to technical (i.e., product, process) and business requirements.

  • Monitor changes to regulatory requirements and communicate relevant information to internal stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Distinguish between regulatory, process, product planning, and business risks to formulate and prioritize responses and risk mitigation in close collaboration with different departments.
  • Lead process development and continuous process improvement activities necessary to remain compliant with different regulations.
  • Formulate responses to queries from different agencies.

  • Support the development and provide input to the training plan to ensure compliance with emissions regulatory requirements.

  • Develop detailed plans for regular audits at different departments to ensure compliance with emissions regulatory requirement.

  • Develop and maintain strategic and tactical partnership with agencies.
  • Maintain accountability for agency related correspondence including applications, audits, and renewals for certification and listing programs.
  • Participate in and represent TMH in Industry Associations and standards development committees, maintaining memberships
  • Provide technical support to the corporate legal staff or outside legal counsel on possible product problems and claims.
  • Maintain and enhance communication and collaboration among TMH, TINA, TICO, and regulatory agencies while ensuring privacy and compliance.
  • Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams within TMH to ensure product compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Company’s Compliance group.

  • Engage closely with TICO and Hekinan engine development and regulatory teams.
  • Provide relevant technical support on TMH products, policies to these inter-company teams.
  • Provide technical support to the corporate legal staff or outside legal counsel on possible product problems and claims
  • Education & Experience

    Required

  • Relevant post-secondary degree (e.g., Engineering, Environmental, Design, or similar field).
  • Strong commitment to compliance
  • Experience working in the engine, off-road equipment, emissions certification, and testing areas/field.
  • Strong Knowledge of US EPA and CARB Emissions regulations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and training team members.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and make connections between the regulatory compliance scenarios and TMH business priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of engine testing equipment, software, and tools.
  • Strong technical experience, capability of process mapping and improvement, and willingness to work hands-on in cross functional teams to drive identified improvement initiatives.
  • Microsoft Office Skills.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and drive, with an ability to lead multiple projects and initiatives in parallel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively on compliance topics with different departments.
  • Self-Motivated individual passionate about creating sustainable change.
  • Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental, Design, or similar field.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of internal combustion engines, engine emissions, after treatment function and components.
  • 5+ years’ work experience in engine, emissions or manufacturing related field.
