Our client is currently seeking a EPMO Sr. Portfolio Analyst
This will be a hybrid role out of Sacramento, CA.

Senior Portfolio Analyst – Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO)

Overview

Reporting to the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) Manager, the Senior Portfolio Analyst plays a key role in driving portfolio process improvements and supporting project, program, and portfolio teams across business and technical functions.

This role focuses on delivering value aligned with organizational strategy and objectives, fostering collaboration, and enhancing delivery practices within the EPMO.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across departments, teams, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Portfolio Operations

  • Lead initiatives with moderate to high impact, scope, and complexity.
  • Develop and deliver training for project professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with project management frameworks and governance.
  • Support enhancements to EPMO tools and processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and issue resolution.
  • Provide peer feedback and cross-training within the EPMO.
  • Research and validate project community needs.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare materials, and track action items.
  • Assist with RFP activities, including vendor analysis and business need identification.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Contribute to value realization and benefit tracking for projects.
  • Support continuous improvement of EPMO standards and tools.
  • Collect and analyze data for portfolio reporting.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and alternative methodologies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with teams to anticipate stakeholder needs and define solutions.
  • Participate in meetings to address emerging portfolio needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with project professionals.
  • Identify synergies and reuse opportunities across initiatives.
  • Communicate impacts and share relevant information across teams.
  • Promote internal collaboration and support partner objectives.
  • Consulting & Change Management

  • Define project approaches and monitor progress.
  • Support issue resolution and change initiatives.
  • Provide tools and resources for implementing change.
  • Facilitate organizational change management training.
  • Participate in user groups and forums to share best practices.
  • Maintain feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.
  • Help teams understand and overcome adoption challenges.
  • Training & Adoption

  • Analyze learning needs and training effectiveness.
  • Engage with project professionals to understand challenges.
  • Deliver training on methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Support curriculum development for project management education.
  • Qualifications

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Accounting, MIS, or Computer Science required.
  • Equivalent experience (8+ years) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience

  • Minimum 8 years in project portfolio management, analytics, and reporting, preferably in a financial or similarly complex organization.
  • At least 5 years of experience in requirements analysis using tools such as Business Context Diagrams, Use Cases, and Problem/Opportunity Analysis.
  • Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of project and portfolio management methodologies and tools.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills; comfortable engaging with senior leadership.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks and lifecycle templates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Project, Excel, SharePoint, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with portfolio management and testing tools is a plus.
  • Customer-focused with strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Logical reasoning and objective evaluation capabilities.
  • Supportive of leadership decisions and strategic direction.
  • Knowledge of software development life cycles is advantageous.
