      Urgent! Estimator (Contracts) Position in Norfolk - General Dynamics NASSCO
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)Develop detailed, accurate labor, material, and equipment estimates for shipboard/shop work and repairs to be accomplished on Government and Commercial vessels using drawings and specifications and on-site ship checks for interference and access problems.
Solicit and evaluate price quotations from subcontractors and rental equipment providers.
Prepare estimates in strict compliance with Estimating Department standards and policies; providing feedback to such standards and policies when experience suggests a need for deviation or change.

Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or AA/AS plus two (2) years’ directly related experience, or six (6) years’ directly related experience.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Estimating Supervisor and interfaces with other estimators, schedulers, production supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, Proposal Managers, and customers while developing and scoping estimates.
Estimators are required to plan and schedule their work to fit within the overall schedule set by the Department Manager.
This position has no direct reports.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable to the Estimating Supervisor and the Director of Business Development and Estimating for the accuracy and timeliness of estimates.
UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation.
Work may require assignment to offsite locations.
Must qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.
Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.
Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.
Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.
Must have good eye/hand coordination.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.
These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.
