Fall Program and Administration Intern – MacMillan Family Foundation (NYC)
New York, NY

10 weeks, beginning in October

In-person, Tuesday through Thursday

15-20 hours per week (flexible), $25/hour

About the Foundation

Founded in by Duncan and Nancy MacMillan, the MacMillan Family Foundation is a not-for-profit grantmaking institution dedicated to supporting organizations that help strengthen and enrich our society in three major areas: medical research, with an emphasis on cancer research; education; and the arts.

In addition, the Foundation is undertaking a limited grants program focusing on the environment.

Headquartered in New York City, the Foundation primarily focuses its grantmaking in New York City and New Jersey.

Overview

The Foundation seeks an intern to provide a range of administrative, operational, and research support on a part-time basis in Fall .

Reporting to the Program Officer and supporting the full team, this position is an ideal opportunity to gain exposure to philanthropic strategies and foundation operations and learn about the work of a variety of nonprofit organizations within our program areas.

They will be able to make a meaningful contribution to advance the Foundation’s mission by working collaboratively with a small team.

Candidates for this position must be able to work in person at our offices Tuesday through Thursday.

The primary responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting background research and creating reports as assigned on key issue areas and nonprofit organizations.
  • Working independently and as part of a team in the creation of proposal and report summaries, briefs, and other written materials for internal use.
  • Preparing for and/or joining meetings and site visits with grantees as needed, taking detailed notes and developing meeting summaries.
  • Assisting with digital filing for current and past grants.
  • Assisting with general office work, including greeting visitors, answering phones, filing, tracking and ordering office supplies, and other duties or tasks as assigned or required.
  • Qualifications:

  • Recent graduates with fewer than three years of work experience or enrolled undergraduates who have completed at least two years of study.
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the Foundation’s core program areas.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit and/or administrative role is preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with careful attention to accuracy.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment, anticipate next steps, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and aptitude for learning new platforms.
