Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fiber Design Technician to join our team.
This role supports the planning, documentation, and optimization of optical transport networks, ensuring designs meet both engineering standards and operational requirements.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, eager to learn, and able to apply training quickly to produce accurate, reliable work.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and documentation of fiber optical transport networks, including backbone, metro, and access systems.
Follow structured training programs, design standards, and documentation procedures with precision.
Support the preparation of fiber optical design packages to include the routing of fiber cable Use client designated design tools to update network layouts, splice diagrams, and as-built documentation.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Provide documentation for construction teams, permitting, and internal record-keeping.
Assist in troubleshooting optical designs by applying critical thinking and asking the right questions.
Adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Experience & Requirements 1–3 years of experience in telecom, Fiber optical network design, or fiber documentation (internships or academic project experience may be considered).
Foundational knowledge of fiber optic aerial and buried design principles, including splicing.
Ability to read and interpret OSP construction drawings, splice diagrams, and network records.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications for reporting and documentation.
Strong ability to retain training, follow procedures, and apply knowledge to new projects.
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Associates degree or technical training in telecommunications, engineering, or related field preferred. Software & Tools Microsoft Excel – Excel Drawing of fiber splice sheets NetCracker, KMZ GIS Platforms (ArcGIS, 3-GIS, ArcMap, Google Earth) – mapping and fiber route tracking.
Optical Design/Simulation Tools (, OptiSystem, OTDR analysis software, vendor-specific DWDM/GPON planning tools).
