Job Description Job Description Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance ● Perform all BESS commissioning activities in accordance with Organizational safety procedures, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and site-specific requirements.
● Contribute to the safe energization and high-voltage operations of the BESS power lineups, coordinating with site safety personnel and contractors.
Commissioning & Technical Execution ● Perform on-site commissioning, BESS setup and configuration, energization, and verification of battery racks, BMS, PCS, HVAC, and fire-suppression systems.
● Test and validate safety interlock and emergency systems (E-Stops, fire suppression, HVAC shutdown, gas detection) to verify readiness and compliance.
● Execute electrical and controls testing.
● Physically inspect and validate electrical terminations, cabinet wiring, and sensor installations prior to energization.
● Operate test equipment (multimeters, megohmmeters, oscilloscopes) to verify insulation, grounding, and signal continuity.
● Download, analyze, and interpret BMS and PCS log data to confirm performance and troubleshoot issues.
Verify communication and interoperability between BMS/PCS and site SCADA/EMS systems (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).
Project Coordination ● Serve as the primary on-site technical representative, communicating daily with customer, vendor, and contractor teams.
● Provide leadership, direction and oversight of subcontractors dispatched on the commissioning site ● Coordinate site activities and align with project schedules to ensure timely completion of commissioning milestones.
● Provide clear daily status updates and milestone reports to Project Managers and Customer Service Engineers.
● Assist the Project Manager to track the activity falling into the Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship obligations ● Coordinate with the After-Sales Operations for Commissioning Spare Parts usage and supply ● Hands over the project to the After Sales Service team with formal delivery of project close-out documentation, inclusive of negotiated punch list.
Testing, Data & Documentation ● Participate in final site acceptance test and project start-up, serving as technical direction to customers ● Collect, review, and analyze system test data to verify compliance with performance requirements.
● Create detailed daily field reports, test records, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
● Use data-logging or visualization tools to monitor commissioning KPIs (voltage, temperature, SOC, communication latency).
● Maintain version control for test scripts, configuration parameters, and firmware revisions per QA standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration ● Work with SDI BESS design authorities and product quality experts to resolve field issues and provide detailed technical feedback.
● Participate in Final Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) and support customer witness testing.
Continuous Improvement & Training ● Capture and document lessons learned from field activities to enhance SDIA’s commissioning standards and processes.
● Provide structured field-to-R&D feedback to improve reliability and commissioning efficiency.
● Contribute to on-the-job training of service contractors hired in support of the commissioning tasks Required Skills, Qualifications & Certification ● Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, or related) or equivalent field experience.
● 3–5 years of hands-on commissioning, testing, operations, or field support for electrical power generation, distribution, or control systems—preferably in lithium-ion BESS, DC substations, or PCS.
● Proven experience as the primary company representative at customer sites, managing on-site communication and execution.
● Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical fundamentals, control systems, and network architectures.
● Ability and willingness to travel 70–80% across the Americas.
Valid driving license.
● Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills, independence, and proactive communication.
● Highly skilled at self-organization and priority management ● Familiarity with HVAC, fire-suppression, and safety systems.
● Proficiency with test instruments (multimeters, Megger, oscilloscopes) and basic hand tools (torque wrenches, screwdrivers).
● Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, and PLC logic.
● Excellent written and verbal communication for daily reporting and coordination.
● Prior battery-storage commissioning experience strongly preferred.
