**Job Description:**

The Baltimore, MD office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer/Inspector to join our growing practice.

 We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

**Position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.**

**Job Responsibilities:**

+ Perform geotechnical construction phase field observation and testing when required, including compacted fill placement, fill and footing subgrade approval, deep foundation installation inspection (auger cast piles, steel and concrete piles and caissons), ground improvement installation, inspection of tieback installation, and cast in place concrete.
+ Prepare field observation and testing reports.
+ Review field observations and testing reports prepared by others for accuracy and completeness, keeping project files up to date, including summaries and plans.
+ Work closely with senior geotechnical engineers and structural engineers to troubleshoot construction issues and to develop recommendations to resolve the issues.
+ Work with and coordinate with clients and contractors to successfully execute their projects.
+ Perform geotechnical site investigations, including test borings, test pits, and in-situ testing (CPT, DMT, PMT), if required.
+ Willing to travel and work out of state for extended periods of time.

**Required Skills/Experience:**

+ High School Degree required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

(ABET accredited program not necessary)
+ 5+ years of geotechnical field inspection and testing experience.

Technical post-secondary education (engineering or geology degree) may substitute for some experience.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Positive attitude
+ Ability to multi-task 
+ Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
+ Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel
+ Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside

**Other Requirements:**

+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
+ Must possess a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle as driving is an essential function of the job

The compensation range for this position is between $22 to $30/hr.

Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
