You will work with the Modeling and Simulation team using best-in-class modeling and simulation software tools to perform analysis critical in the design of access equipment.
Simulation disciplines include: Multibody Dynamics (MBD), Structures (FEA), Hydraulics and control systems.
Focusing on one of the simulation disciplines, daily work will be cross-discipline to build and verify models, run simulations that are the virtual analog of physical tests, and postprocess results to evaluate performance as it relates to design requirements.
The team is responsible for all dynamics and system simulation activities, and assists all platform teams on new product design (NPD) engineering and technology R&D projects.
Daily use of CAD and commercial simulation tools is augmented with in-house developed software to build and manage models and to simulate test events.
**YOUR IMPACT**
As a Modeling and Simulation Engineering Intern your experience may include:
+ Building and updating Multibody Dynamic models based on CAD data
+ Performing Multibody Dynamic simulation to evaluate stability, loads, dynamic response and NVH performance of boom lifts, telehandlers or scissor lifts.
+ Perform Design of Experiments and/or Optimizations on a MBD model to meet a series of performance requirements.
+ Modeling structural components using Finite Element Analysis software.
+ Performing static FEA analysis to evaluate stress and strain in structural components.
+ Use results from MBD simulations and FEA models to perform fatigue analysis.
+ Modeling and simulating hydraulic systems to verify accuracy and performance.
+ Performing Co-simulation of MBD, Hydraulic, & Control system models.
+ Work with and augment custom scripts and/or software to automate model generation or data analysis workflows.
+ Participate in physical testing full vehicles or vehicle components.
+ Use physical test data to perform correlation studies of simulated components or vehicles.
+ Communicate status and results of simulation analysis to internal departments.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field
+ Enrolled in a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field
+ Experience with a programming language (e.g., C++, Java) or scripting language (e.g., python, MATLAB, JavaScript).
+ Willing to travel or relocate to Hagerstown, MD for the duration of the summer internship.
+ Interest in access or construction equipment engineering.
**STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Experience performing mathematical analysis on kinematic/dynamic, structural, hydraulic, and control systems.
+ Completed courses related to:
+ Kinematics
+ Mechanics of materials
+ Dynamic systems
+ Mechanical vibrations/NVH
+ Structural analysis
+ Experience with any of the following software packages:
+ MSC/Adams, or another MBD software package
+ NASTRAN, Hypermesh or another FEA software package
+ Simulink or AMEsim
+ Proficiency with software version control systems, e.g. Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket

+ This role combines office-based administrative duties with physical activity in field or production environments.
+ In the office setting, tasks may require extended computer use, sitting, and attending meetings.
+ Field or floor work may involve walking across various terrains or shop floors, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.
+ Must be able to shift focus between detailed cognitive work and occasional physical tasks as needed.

**Pay Range:**
$18.00 - $37.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations.
Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
