Overview MG2, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is currently looking for a Junior Spec Writer to join our Community Environments Market team in Seattle, WA! You will be working in our Community Environments (CE) Market, whereby joining you’ll have the unique opportunity to design and deliver healthy, thriving mixed-use communities.
Specification writers at this level are focused on the production and coordination of the construction specifications.
They are the primary contact for project teams for matters related to the specifications like product and material recommendations and performance expectations.
They maintain a network of experienced product representatives and monitor the industry for changes that protect and enhance the firm and our projects.
Responsibilities Owns responsibility for overall project specifications, including supporting design intent during project execution, with limited oversight.
Develops specifications as appropriate for each project phase.
Ensure adherence to firm-wide documentation standards and procedures, including proper use of MG2 templates.
Provide guidance to other staff members regarding implementation of design standards as required.
Handles Quality Control of project documents (internal team review).
Develops, improves and maintains master specifications for cross-market clients.
Supports local and regional offices in material research, selection and specification as well as material conflict issues throughout project phases.
Provides support for project teams with product submittal reviews, substitution requests, and information requests, as it relates to project specifications.
Manages technical aspects of project specifications delivery.
Owns responsibility for code and constructability issues on project as it relates to project specifications.
Owns responsibility for assembling and coordinating specification deliverables with limited oversight.
Maintain and build relationships with vendors, suppliers, and product representatives.
Maintain relationship and coordinate with Client National account managers.
Implements sustainable design (such as LEED, LBC, CALGreen) in project specifications as required by project.
Produce accurate and timely work in accordance with the project schedule and workplans.
Work should demonstrate understanding of contractual obligations, design intent, and the project budget.
Qualifications Minimum of 3 years prior specifications writing experience within a related field.
Experience with the building types of the assigned market (Multi-Family Housing, mixed-use, entertainment, retail, commercial, industrial, light medical with a robust variety of building systems).
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent.
CSI’s Certification such as CDT (Construction Documents Technologist) or CCS (Certified Construction Specifier) or equivalent.
LEED Green Associate, LEED AP or equivalent.
Demonstrated expertise in collaboration software such as Bluebeam and Teams.
Demonstrated experience in coordination of construction materials with vendors and material suppliers.
Demonstrated experience in preparation of architectural project specifications for multiple small- to large-scale projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building codes, building systems, and construction material standards.
Proficient with MS Word and specification writing software such as SpecLink is highly desired.
Working knowledge of the architectural design and delivery process and construction sequencing and execution.
Working knowledge of complete Construction Documents and integration of specifications.
Believes in the importance of writing well-coordinated project specifications as a part of the quality assurance process.
Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
Compensation: $27.40/hour to $34.37/hour, annualizing to $57,000 to $71,500 (depending on qualifications)
