WBUR CitySpace on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston is our state-of-the-art events venue with luminaries from Boston and beyond, live on stage.


As a non-profit, WBUR has no paywall and no subscription fee — audience supportmakes our news and programming accessible for all.

Here & Now , the trusted midday newsmagazine co-produced by WBUR and NPR and heard by more than four million listeners each week across nearly 500 stations, is seeking a new Co-Host to join its team.

We’re looking for a journalist with exceptional editorial judgment, a passion for original storytelling, and the ability to lead thoughtful, resonant conversations with newsmakers, cultural figures, and changemakers.

This is a rare opportunity to connect with a national audience — informing, inspiring, and engaging millions across broadcast, digital, and live platforms.

As Co-Host, you’ll help shape the daily national dialogue, bringing intelligence, empathy, and rigor to breaking news, deep-dive features, and cultural coverage.

You’ll collaborate closely with a talented team of producers, editors, reporters, and fellow hosts to deliver high-impact journalism with clarity, warmth, and authority.

This position reports directly to the Executive Producer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Host Here & Now on a daily basis (or as determined by a three-host rotation schedule).
  • Deliver news with clarity, warmth and authority while maintaining WBUR and NPR's editorial standards.
  • Work closely with editors and producers to craft a compelling mix of distinctive journalism and rich storytelling.
  • Engage audiences across platforms, including podcasts, social media, live streams, newsletters and video, with an eye toward innovation and growth.
  • Pitch, secure and shape exclusive, engaging interviews with key newsmakers.
  • Report from the field as needed, delivering on-the-ground coverage of major events or enterprise stories.
  • Write and edit broadcast copy and promotional material with precision, creativity and journalistic integrity.
  • Stay well-informed by reading widely and keeping current on news, issues and ideas.
  • Collaborate with show leadership to foster an inclusive, supportive and high-performing team culture.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including participating in on-air membership drives, digital campaigns and donor events.

Required Skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of journalism, broadcast or audio storytelling experience, including on-air hosting or anchoring.
  • Superior live interviewing skills, particularly with high-profile guests and under breaking news conditions.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and editorial decision-making abilities.
  • Passion for public medias mission and values, with a deep respect for editorial independence, diversity, and public trust.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive under deadline pressure and to manage complex, fast-changing news situations with poise and authority.
  • Ability to identify, pitch, and report enterprising, original stories.
  • Talent for narrative storytelling across platforms.
  • Familiarity with audio production workflows, digital media tools and social media best practices.
  • Deep knowledge of current events, culture, and issues affecting a diverse, national audience.
  • Willingness and ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.
  • Relentless energy and creativity.
  • A collaborative spirit, high emotional intelligence and a drive for journalistic excellence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as assignments require.
