Position Overview

This position is accountable for assisting the Regional Information Technology Manager - Region 2 and other Bureau of Information Processing (BIP) staff with day-to-day operational duties.

The incumbent is responsible for supporting non-application related information technology (IT) issues, supporting users in a network environment, troubleshooting IT needs for executive staff; networking with central and district office IT staff located throughout the state, assisting with IT equipment inventory management and equipment refreshment initiatives, and utilizing the ServiceNow (SNOW) system for inventory management and submittal of service requests and/or incident tickets.

The incumbent serves as the liaison between Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) IT staff and Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) staff.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Regional Information Technology Manager - Region 2 (RITM - R2), and other Bureau of Information Processing (BIP) staff with day-to-day operational duties.
  • Assists with managing information technology (IT) issues and provides support to technology users in a network environment.
  • Assists with coordination of IT initiatives along with other IT staff throughout the state.
  • Assists with personal computer (PC) Refresh initiatives, multi-functional printer issues, and IT inventory management.
  • Works with staff in each of district 2’s business areas to monitor IT permissions and security.
  • Provides basic smartphone, PC, laptop, and tablet upgrades and/or configuration services.
  • Resolves IT Xpress help tickets and submits ServiceNow (SNOW) tickets when applicable.
  • Serves as a liaison between the department and Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) staff.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.

    Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in computer science or information technology, OR completion of two years of college plus two years of experience working with network operating systems, end-user computer support, IT troubleshooting, or a combination thereof, OR six years of experience working with network operating systems, end-user computer support, IT troubleshooting, or a combination thereof.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Basic knowledge of PMI, ITIL, and Agile methodologies for project coordination.
  • Proficient with various network operating environments and communication protocols.
  • Working knowledge of concepts and techniques to effectively manage people, tasks, and programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute administrative and technical program requirements.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with employees, agency officials, and the public.
  • Good organizational and documentation skills.

 This position will change from the Technical Manager III classification to Transportation Information Systems Analyst I, option A, in the near future as part of the completion of this ongoing administrative alignment project.
