Innovation Director (E6020) - 250295 : KNW-D90 Description Job SummaryThe Director of Innovation is a pivotal leadership role within IEEE’s Office of Innovation, charged with transforming strategic vision into impactful programs, pilots, and outcomes. Working in close partnership with the Chief Innovation Officer and senior leaders across IEEE’s societies, councils, and organizational units, this role will spearhead the execution of IEEE’s innovation portfolio, lead cross-functional initiatives, and ensure measurable value is delivered to members, industry, and society. While the primary focus is on executing business strategy, the Director will also play a critical role in shaping the future of IEEE’s innovation agenda—offering visibility and influence across the entire innovation lifecycle, from upstream strategy to downstream product development. Key ResponsibilitiesStrategy Execution & Strategic Shaping- Translate IEEE’s innovation strategy into actionable roadmaps, milestones, and deliverables.
- Identify emerging trends, market signals, and internal capabilities to inform evolving strategic priorities.
- Ensure seamless alignment between innovation strategy, go-to-market plans, and product development efforts.
- Lead the development, launch, and scaling of new innovation programs, products, and services.
- Collaborate with societies and organizational units to align innovation efforts with IEEE’s mission and strategic goals.
- Monitor progress, resolve execution barriers, and drive accountability across teams.
Workshop Design & Facilitation- Design and lead high-impact workshops for executives and cross-functional teams focused on portfolio prioritization, strategic alignment, and innovation road mapping.
- Apply structured methodologies such as design thinking, systems thinking, and futures frameworks to guide collaborative problem-solving.
- Convert workshop insights into actionable strategies and portfolio adjustments.
Portfolio & Pipeline Management- Oversee the innovation portfolio and pipeline, including idea intake, prioritization, prototyping, and funding pathways.
- Implement evaluation frameworks to measure financial, mission-driven, and societal impact.
- Support data-driven decision-making through robust business cases and performance analytics.
Cross-Functional Leadership- Lead cross-organizational working groups and project teams to deliver innovation initiatives.
- Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate adoption and scale.
- Champion change management efforts to embed innovation as a core capability across IEEE.
Measurement & Reporting- Define and maintain KPIs, metrics, and dashboards to track progress and outcomes.
- Deliver regular updates to the Chief Innovation Officer, senior leadership, and the IEEE Board on initiative status, impact, and key learnings.
Team & Culture Development- Mentor and manage innovation project managers and analysts, fostering a high-performing, delivery-focused team.
- Promote a culture of creativity, experimentation, and inclusivity throughout IEEE.
Travel Requirements- Approximately 25% domestic and international travel, including occasional weekends.
Qualifications Education Local and Remote candidates will be considered for this position - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Work Experience - 10-15 years 10 years of experience in innovation management, product development, strategy execution, or related fields.
Req - Prior consulting experience in strategy, innovation, or organizational transformation, with a track record of delivering impact for large, complex organizations.
Req - Demonstrated success in moving innovation initiatives from concept to implementation in a large, complex environment (nonprofit, professional society, or corporate).

- Strong project and portfolio management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and deliver multiple concurrent initiatives.
