Job description

Overview

WBUR is Boston's NPR and a public media leader committed to exceptional journalism on-air, online, on-demand and on stage.

Our mission is to produce high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community for an expanding circle of people.

Our vision is to become a daily habit for every person in Boston and beyond who seeks to engage with the most consequential issues of our times.

WBUR is best known as an exceptional audio brand, reaching approximately 6.5 million listeners across the country each week with two national shows, Here & Now and On Point.

We have built new audiences with podcasts from Endless Thread to Circle Round, and Beyond All Repair.

WBUR is a trusted local news source with a strong newsroom known for reporting original stories of significance to Boston and the region.

We also produce newsletters, events, and offer a culture of accessibility with no paywall.

Here & Now, the trusted midday newsmagazine co-produced by WBUR and NPR and heard by more than four million listeners each week across nearly 500 stations, is seeking a new Co-Host to join its team.

This is a rare opportunity to connect with a national audience—informing, inspiring, and engaging millions across broadcast, digital, and live platforms.

This position reports directly to the Executive Producer.

  • Engage audiences across platforms, including podcasts, social media, live streams, newsletters and video, with an eye toward innovation and growth.

  • Pitch, secure and shape exclusive interviews with key newsmakers.

  • Report from the field as needed, delivering on-the-ground coverage of major events or enterprise stories.

  • Write and edit broadcast copy and promotional material with precision and journalistic integrity.

  • Stay informed by reading widely and keeping current on news, issues and ideas.

  • Collaborate with show leadership to foster an inclusive, supportive and high-performing team culture.

  • Support fundraising efforts, including participating in on-air membership drives, digital campaigns and donor events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant professional experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of journalism, broadcast or audio storytelling experience, including on-air hosting or anchoring.

  • Superior live interviewing skills, particularly with high-profile guests and under breaking news conditions.

  • Exceptional writing, editing and editorial decision-making abilities.

  • Passion for public media's mission and values, with a deep respect for editorial independence, diversity, and public trust.

  • Ability to thrive under deadline pressure and manage complex, fast-changing news situations with poise and authority.

  • Ability to identify, pitch, and report enterprising, original stories.

  • Talent for narrative storytelling across platforms.

  • Familiarity with audio production workflows, digital media tools and social media best practices.

  • Deep knowledge of current events, culture, and issues affecting a diverse, national audience.

  • Willingness and ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.

  • Relentless energy and creativity, with a collaborative spirit and high emotional intelligence.
