Physician - Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Ocular Oncology Ophthalmologist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

Position Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks an Ocular Oncology Ophthalmologist to join the Retina Division within the Department.

This full-time clinical or clinician-scientist position focuses on patient care, research, and education in Ocular Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Academic rank and track are commensurate with the candidate’s academic record and experience.

Department/Division Overview

The Ohio State University prides itself on being a large research university.

The Havener Eye Institute operates within the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus, with state-of-the-art facilities and on-site outpatient surgical centers.

The goal is to provide high-quality care with the latest equipment and instrumentation.

Duties And Responsibilities

The Division Director and/or Department Chair assign work.

Faculty members are expected to perform the full range of teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

Clinical services are a component of faculty responsibilities, with or without trainees.

There is an opportunity to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives in consultation with the Department Chair.

Faculty must teach, which may include clinical or didactic teaching to medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

Service commitments include duties at OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites as assigned.

Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected, as well as involvement in local, regional, or national professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Due to contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. citizenship is required for participation in this role.
  • Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment and eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Must hold an MD or DO degree and have completed an approved residency program in Ophthalmology, with subspecialty fellowship training in Retina.
  • Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and credentials.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management of Ocular Oncology.
  • Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery through basic and/or clinical applied research and publications.
  • Commitment to residents, fellows, and medical students is required.

Clinical faculty focus on delivering exemplary clinical care and may include teaching and/or research, with appointments typically for three to five years and not tenure-track.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – includes titles such as assistant professor, associate professor, or professor with eligibility for tenure.

Primary focus is on research, service, and teaching; clinical duties may be included for MD/DO holders.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – includes titles such as research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor.

Not tenure-track; primary focus is research.
