The Service Department is responsible for servicing and installing various natural gas appliances (residential and commercial), setting and maintaining residential and light commercial meters, restoring gas service to customers, and responding to after-hours and emergency calls.
We are looking for Installation Specialist IV to join our team!
Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings.
This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing.
This position reports to our Henderson Operations Center in Henderson, North Carolina.
What You Will Do:
Assist in the installation of natural gas appliances, meters, and facilities in an efficient and safe manner while achieving excellent customer service.
Use Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to distribute and route work orders to computers mounted in company vehicles.
Light gas pilots on natural gas residential and/or commercial appliances.
Complete minor appliance repairs.
Run customer fuel lines.
Complete appropriate paperwork in writing and on the computer.
Safely drive a company vehicle.
Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines.
Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.
Who You Are:
Installation Specialist IV (6-18 months experience)
Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED)
Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
Must have knowledge and skills with common hand and power tools.
Effective communication skills for positive customer interactions are critical.
Ability to work in enclosed areas such as crawl spaces, basements, and attics.
Ability to work on elevated areas such as roofs and utilize ladders, scaffolding and lifts.
Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.
Willingness to work as a team member within a diverse team.
Basic computer and internet navigation skills.
Ability to serve as a natural gas emergency responder.
Availability for overtime and after-hours, on-call work (including weekends and holidays, if needed).
Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Henderson area.
Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:
Plumbing, heating, or air background
A demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures.
A good mechanical aptitude.
A demonstrated ability to use and comprehend mathematical calculations and formulas.
Bilingual (Spanish) candidates.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in customer's premise, as well as, outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.)
Position works around fumes, energized wires, dust/grease/oil, and in confined spaces.
Position works in enclosed areas such as crawl spaces, basements, and attics, as well as, elevated areas such as roofs and utilize ladders, scaffolding and lifts.
Position may encounter agitated/upset customers.
Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):
Balancing, bending and stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying (up to 80 amount of pounds), grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects 80 pounds), pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement, grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 80 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
