Primary Purpose
The Criminal Justice Program seeks qualified individuals to serve as an Instructional Assistant.
Assistants will support the primary course instructor in the education and skill development of students during classroom, lab, scenario, and field experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Assist during Criminal Justice program classes, labs, scenarios, and field exercises under the direction of the primary instructor.
+ Provide classroom support, including assisting with lecture activities, distributing materials, monitoring attendance, setting up audiovisual or simulation equipment, and helping students engage with course content.
+ Answer student questions regarding classroom and lab exercises; provide instruction in lab or scenario procedures.
+ Monitor safety and professionalism during labs involving defensive tactics, ORPAT (Oregon Physical Abilities Test), emergency management, or mock investigation exercises.
+ Assist with dispatch and communications labs, including setup and operation of 911 simulation software or radio equipment.
+ Administer and grade quizzes, classroom activities, scenario evaluations, and lab assignments.
+ Support the development and preparation of lab and lecture exercises and curriculum under the guidance of the primary instructor.
+ Conduct setup and cleanup of classroom, lab, field, or scenario environments and ensure all equipment is properly checked out, maintained, and returned.
+ Maintain and organize instructional materials, props, and equipment related to police, courts, corrections, and emergency management training.
+ Provide feedback to students on applied skills, ensuring that proper laws, policies, and investigative techniques are followed during exercises.
+ Cooperate with other College personnel, including the primary instructor and program director, to support student learning, retention, and program quality.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
+ Strong knowledge in the field of Criminal Justice, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, emergency management, dispatch/911 operations, and officer wellness and fitness.
+ Understanding of criminal and constitutional law, report writing, and investigative principles.
+ Familiarity with police and corrections tools, including radios, defensive tactics gear, and simulation or scenario-based training equipment.
+ Ability to assist with ORPAT testing, physical training, and dispatch or communication labs.
+ Familiarity with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and learning management systems.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a professional and educational setting.
+ Knowledge of teaching and instructional techniques, classroom management, and group dynamics for diverse audiences.
+ Ability to collaborate with the Criminal Justice Program Director, faculty, and Instructional Dean.
+ Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on course scheduling.
+ Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are typically between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the workweek.
A flexible schedule—including evenings and weekends—may be required due to lab, scenario, or classroom scheduling.
The position may require standing for extended periods, physical participation in ORPAT and defensive tactics exercises, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
+ Associate of Applied Science ( AAS ) degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
Experience:
+ 3 years of coursework, field experience, or work experience in law enforcement, corrections, dispatch, or a related criminal justice field.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field.
Experience:
+ Teaching, tutoring, or training experience in a college or professional law enforcement setting.
+ Advanced police or corrections certification may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
+ Experience assisting with ORPAT , dispatch labs, classroom instruction, or scenario-based training preferred.
